Recently, I received a rather peculiar phone call purporting to be from British Gas, claiming they were reaching out to renew our contract. The predicament is, we’ve only just made the switch to them! When the caller asked for our personal details, I found it quite baffling and pointed out that surely, being customers, they ought to have that information at hand. To my astonishment, he then proceeded to read out an account number that bore no resemblance to ours. At that point, I decided it was best to terminate the conversation. Immediately after, I rang up British Gas directly to clarify, and they assured me that the call was not legitimate.

I received a call purporting to be from British Gas regarding my upcoming renewal. When I mentioned I had a manager who handles that, I ended the call. To my surprise, they called me straight back, demanding to know why I had cut the conversation short. I promptly told the caller not to use vulgar language and requested to speak to my manager. To my astonishment, he told me to shove off before hanging up on me. I tried to return the call, but was greeted by a recorded message stating that the number was out of service. I subsequently reached out to British Gas, and naturally, they confirmed that they had no connection to this call and are working to address the issue.

A chap with a foreign accent phoned me, claiming to be from British Gas and was keen to chat with the owner of the house. When he inquired if I was the owner, I promptly informed him that I wasn't. He insisted on talking to the actual owner, and when I reiterated my position, he accused me of being impolite. He then probed as to why he couldn't have a word with the owner, to which I mentioned they were on holiday. He requested my name, but I was curious and asked why he needed it. He replied he wanted to express his gratitude, so I told him he could just convey his thanks without needing my name. I wished him goodbye and ended the call. Something tells me he’s not truly from British Gas and I’ll be adding him to my blocked numbers list.

I received a call today from a chap with an Asian accent claiming to be part of Eon's renewal team, keen to provide me with some quotes. Curious, I asked him when my current contract expires, but he seemed completely stumped by the question. When I told him to stop bothering me, he had the audacity to hurl some rather unpleasant insults my way, calling me a bloody mother...! Quite shocking, really!

I spent ages on the phone with them after switching from BT to BGas, and they kept telling me my contract was finished. I asked to speak to my business manager and got put through to someone called Michael, who claimed to be in charge. He then said my contract wouldn't end until next year or something. I told him I was certain about the date, but before I knew it, he told me to basically shove it and then the call just dropped.

Got a call on 23rd August from someone claiming to be British Gas. I told them I wasn’t happy with their price increases and then they just ended the call. Then today, another call from someone saying they were from Opus, which is my current provider. I asked for the account password, and they gave me some random numbers. Told them that was wrong, and then they said there was no password on my account. When I said they weren’t really from Opus, they just cut the call.

Received a call from someone claiming to be from British Gas Business. Strangely enough, he had all my details - my name, renewal date, and even my address! When I mentioned that I was quite occupied and couldn’t chat, he just kept rambling on, completely disregarding me. It took a turn for the worse when he resorted to foul language and insulted me, calling me a "F*cking B*stard"! I reached out to British Gas afterwards, and they confirmed that the renewals team hadn’t tried to get in touch with me at all. They suggested I notify my phone provider. Definitely smells fishy, that number!

So I just played along, gave them a fake name and pretend bank details - account number and sort code all made up. Let them run with it, wasting their time instead.

Some bloke said he was from Eon, right? I told him to put me on their do-not-call list since that was the sixth time that morning we'd had calls like that. Honestly, what’s the point in these call centres - mostly from Asia - pretending to be 'Mark' or 'Sarah' or any other random name? Do they really think that makes us want to sign up or something? It’s proper daft if you ask me.

He seemed confused and said, "I don’t follow, sir?" I told him we actually use bottled gas out here in the countryside. Next thing, he just hung up on me!

When I mentioned that without the name, I couldn't transfer the call, they resorted to name-calling and rather unpleasant language. Quite taken aback, I decided to hang up.
