Got a call from some dodgy travel agency, total spam!

Some bloke rang up claiming to be Jay from a travel agency, but it was clearly dodgy since I hadn’t booked anything with them or any other holiday company.

This person called me and seemed to know my name, saying they were working for some travel agency talking about flight bookings. Their accent was so thick I could barely catch what they were saying. I figured it was probably just a dodgy scam or fake business.

This number just rang me up trying to flog a plane ticket, said they were from JAXOR TRAVELS. If before they said they worked for some Gaz outfit, well, that figures. Watch out folks.

Had a call from someone with an Indian accent claiming to be from the National Grid. They said my meter was broken and needed replacing within 10 days, offering to schedule a convenient time. But when I probed with a few questions, they couldn't really answer properly. I asked if I could get something in writing first, and all they said was I'd get it once the meter was swapped out! It felt like a typical cold call, so I just ended the call.

They informed me they were scheduled to replace my electric meter and requested my address.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Opus about my meter being broken and trying to set up a time to fix it. They also asked for my bills to be sent over. I knew straight away it wasn’t legit and didn’t send anything. The bloke was rude and pushy, plus his heavy accent made it nearly impossible to understand. Definitely not who he said he was.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent claiming they were from National Grid, saying they needed to swap my meter on a certain day. They wanted my meter details and gave me a reference number, then asked for the current meter reading. They also mentioned I might get money back since the meter was apparently faulty. It became clear it was a scam when they called me a business and mentioned the wrong address. I hung up straight away. Watch out, these callers can be pushy and almost a bit aggressive. Don’t fall for promises of refunds or share any personal info with them.

You can actually use a legitimate public site to look up MPAN (electric) and MPRN (gas) meter numbers, along with who supplies them. All you need is the property’s address (which scammers clearly manage to get). Enter your own email, and they’ll send you the full details of the meter number and supplier straight to your inbox. Simple! The scammers don’t know the person’s actual name, which is why they ask stuff like “Is that the owner?”. There’s a whole lot of people digging up this info to make their calls sound convincing! No worries Adem - I’m not falling for it again!

I got a call from a woman with an Indian accent who wanted to talk about electric meters for businesses. You could hear a bunch of people chatting in the background like it was a call centre or something. Ended up blocking the number straight away.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent claiming they were sending out a new meter and needed the meter number for the date they said. Bloody annoying scammer.

Got a call from a guy who sounded Asian, he kept asking loads about my electric meter. Things got fishy when he started asking for bank info, so I just hung up. Checked with my electricity provider and they said they’d never asked for any details like that.

They just rang and stayed quiet, then ended the call right away.

Somebody rang claiming to be from National Grid’s meter service team saying they needed to swap my meter. When I asked why I hadn’t had any letters, they said they'd sent two notices but apparently no one replied. They then gave me a meter reference number to pass on to the engineer they said would pop round. When I requested a number to call back, they hesitated and then gave me a local number, adding I should ask for Susan. The person had a typical Asian accent - honestly, I can’t understand why these calls keep coming through.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent saying they were from the National Grid about updating my electric meter. They asked for the business owner, but when I questioned them, they didn’t even know my name. Felt off to me since any real caller would have called me by the name on the bill. Definitely sounded like a scam.

Got a call today from this number but they didn’t leave a voicemail or anything, so no idea who it was! Feels like one of those annoying marketing calls to me. Anyway, I’ve just blocked it since it’s obviously nothing urgent.

Got a call from a guy with a foreign accent looking for the person in charge. When I said the boss was tied up and asked if he wanted to leave a message, he just hung up. Pretty sure it was just one of those cold calls or spam.
