Got a call from some bloke in India asking how I was doing. I said we’re swamped with calls and that his call was really important, then I put on some bagpipe tunes. He didn’t hang around for too long after that.

Typical car crash con artist, just like all the others. About 5 minutes after I put up my ad on Gumtree, they rang saying they were from the Claims division. The moment I told them there wasn't any accident, they hung up. Proper dodgy folks! Watch out when dealing with Gumtree contacts - yesterday, I had a PayPal scammer contacting me, spinning a tale about a disabled person wanting to buy something as a gift, insisting I send money first via Western Union to unlock a PayPal transfer. Stay sharp and never send money upfront when you're trying to sell something!

Just like others have said - I put an ad on Gumtree. Got a call from a man speaking with a strong Indian accent and loads of background noise. Could barely understand a word he said. He told me he got my details from some UK National Survey about a small car accident (I looked them up and they don’t appear to be real). I asked him for specifics about the accident since I’ve had a few over the past few years, then asked who exactly he wanted to talk to. Suddenly, a voice shouted something at him in another language and he immediately ended the call.

Some bloke rang saying he was from Gumtree, said he saw my ad and wanted what I was selling. Then he started chatting about meeting up and being mates. He said he needed £100 ‘cause he earns £70 in India or something. Obviously, I wasn’t handing over any money so I told him I’m not working, then he asks where my parents are?! I told him I’m married, then he wanted to know about my husband. What a muppet, who does he think he is? He claimed he got my number from Gumtree. My fault for putting it up there, lesson learnt. Then, the person on the other end started telling me I was attractive, saying he fancied me and wanted to take me out. Got a call from 020 8133511 and the bloke sounded just like Mr Chow from them Hangover films. The minute he mentioned 'accident', I muted the call and let him carry on jibber jabberin'. Ended up hanging up, rang back straight away, muted again and did the same. Then I decided to block the number. About half a minute later, another call came from 020 81337598 with the same spiel, so blocked that one as well. Funny enough, I posted an ad on Gumtree with my phone number just around an hour ago.

Still, I got about 11 calls in a row. The bloke on the other end spoke in awful English and kept yelling that I should listen to him. Just after putting up an ad on Gumtree, I got two calls in quick succession about whether I'd had an accident in the past two years. One of the phone numbers was 020 8144 3119. When I told the caller my number came from Gumtree, he insisted they got it from the National Accident Database. Both times, the callers sounded foreign. The latest bloke said his name was ‘Kasper’, which doesn’t quite strike me as a typical Indian name... quite suspicious if you ask me.

Just like others have said, I got a call from this number right after I put up an ad on Gumtree. Luckily, I was tied up and didn't pick up. From the sound of things, it probably would've been pointless to take the call anyway.

Somebody called me asking if I'd been in any accidents and wanted to know about claims. Bit odd, wasn't expecting that kind of call!

Got a call from a number linked to a Gumtree ad, with someone pretending to be a solicitor or accident claim firm. I said the car's never left my place and told them I'm a car dealer. I asked them to verify the registration, which they did and read it out loud. When I pointed out they were just reading it, the bloke snapped back saying "you best f### off then". Well, that's some professionalism for ya.

I put up an advert on Gumtree and within half a minute got a phone call. The person was asking about a car accident I supposedly had within the past couple of years. Didn’t bother to listen, just ended the call straight away.

Had a couple of calls back to back within an hour, didn’t answer tho. Put an ad up on Gumtree just yesterday, so I’m pretty sure it’s those same scammy folks everyone’s been talking about!

I got a call from a different number and before I could even pick up, they told me I'd been in some accident. Right away I realised it was a scam cause the bloke sounded foreign and fishy, so I just ended the call. Then about 10 seconds afterwards, the same number rang back, but this time the person was saying stuff like "I love you" over and over. I hung up again - it was really creepy. This all happened after I put up an ad on Gumtree, so I guess they must’ve grabbed my number from there. Proper dodgy behaviour, I’m really annoyed this is happening.

I got a call from this number not long after I put up my car ad on gumtree. Then a really similar number popped up too, ending in 443119. Both turned out to be those dodgy accident claim chasers. Didn’t answer, just checked them out online. So glad there’s sites like this to help!

Got a call from this bloke the other day and this is how it went down; Me: Hello? Caller: I'm phoning you about the accident you supposedly had in the past two years. Ring any bells? Me: Sorry, I can't recall. Could you fill me in? Caller: It's YOUR accident, not mine. Why am I meant to remind you? Use your own memory, mate. Why ask me to remind you? Just get lost! Caller: *click* Honestly, the guy just rang me up to hurl abuse and then hung up! Couldn’t even get a word out, proper baffled here. 😳🤦🏾‍♂️

Right after I put up an advert on Gumtree, someone rang me up and started asking about an old accident I supposedly had (which I never did, obviously). I asked him for my full name and he only knew my first name, not my surname ;) He claimed to be calling from some MIV insurance or something similar. Then a minute after we hung up, another chap from MIV rang me from 02056973015. I told him that kind of thing is pretty dodgy behaviour ;)

Got a call from this number just now! Some annoying guy with an Indian accent threatening that if I hang up, he’ll keep ringing me nonstop! Was jabbering on about months of calls and then just slammed the phone down on me! Surely must be one of those scam numbers from Gumtree! Proper nasty behaviour!

This number called me, saying I was involved in an accident a while back. When I told them I don’t own a car, the guy got really angry and kept insisting I did. I ended the call and looked them up. Seems like they already had my details and knew I drive. Funny how they think we’re all daft!
