Got a call from some bloke in India asking how I was doing. I said we’re swamped with calls and that his call was really important, then I put on some bagpipe tunes. He didn’t hang around for too long after that.

Typical car crash con artist, just like all the others. About 5 minutes after I put up my ad on Gumtree, they rang saying they were from the Claims division. The moment I told them there wasn't any accident, they hung up. Proper dodgy folks! Watch out when dealing with Gumtree contacts - yesterday, I had a PayPal scammer contacting me, spinning a tale about a disabled person wanting to buy something as a gift, insisting I send money first via Western Union to unlock a PayPal transfer. Stay sharp and never send money upfront when you're trying to sell something!

Just like others have said - I put an ad on Gumtree. Got a call from a man speaking with a strong Indian accent and loads of background noise. Could barely understand a word he said. He told me he got my details from some UK National Survey about a small car accident (I looked them up and they don’t appear to be real). I asked him for specifics about the accident since I’ve had a few over the past few years, then asked who exactly he wanted to talk to. Suddenly, a voice shouted something at him in another language and he immediately ended the call.

I promptly told him to take a hike and quit being a complete tosser for fishing for numbers to trick unsuspecting folks. Some bloke rang saying he was from Gumtree, said he saw my ad and wanted what I was selling. Then he started chatting about meeting up and being mates. He said he needed £100 ‘cause he earns £70 in India or something. Obviously, I wasn’t handing over any money so I told him I’m not working, then he asks where my parents are?! I told him I’m married, then he wanted to know about my husband. What a muppet, who does he think he is? He claimed he got my number from Gumtree. My fault for putting it up there, lesson learnt. Received a call from someone claiming I’d been involved in a car accident. In a bid to shake them off, I feigned being a kid, but instead of hanging up, this person went completely off-piste! They started complimenting me, saying I was attractive, and expressed a desire to take me out. They even insisted they'd be arriving in their flashy white BMW 5 Series, ready to whisk me off for dinner and then went into some rather unsavoury details about their intentions. I won't unleash the details on you, but let’s just say this individual was far from polite! They claimed they’d swing by at 8 since they supposedly knew my address. Honestly, a truly revolting encounter with what can only be described as potential groomers. Disgraceful!

Much like the other folks who've been in touch, we have a dodgy motor listed on Gumtree. One of the callers was chattering away in such a muddled way that I could hardly make out a word! When I pressed him for clarity, he got all aggressive and told me, "I'll f**k you." Oddly enough, he rang back from a different line, but we decided it was best to just cut the call. I suspect he must have got our number from the ad and thought the car had met with a mishap. Quite the experience, I must say!

I've received calls from this number upwards of six or seven times today! A chap, who sounds like he's got quite a heavy Indian accent and insists his name is John, keeps alleging that I've been involved in a car accident. It's quite clear to me that he's faking the accent-after I unleashed a particularly colourful tirade at him on the seventh attempt, he just burst out laughing and mirrored my tone. There were also voices in the background, which makes me suspect that it might be some dodgy call centre operation at play. What a right nuisance!

Received a call from 020 8133511, and honestly, the chap on the other end reminded me a bit of Mr Chow from 'The Hangover' series. Once he mentioned the word "Accident," I promptly muted my line and let him prattle away. I hung up, redialled right away, did the same song and dance, then swiftly blocked the number. Not long after, I got another ring from 020 81337598 - the exact same drill, and I blocked that one too. Fun fact: I had just posted an ad on Gumtree with my number about an hour before all this happened. Quite the coincidence, isn't it?

Just like someone else mentioned, I began getting a barrage of calls right after I put up an advertisement on Gumtree. They kept enquiring about some supposed accident. After telling them to stop ringing and promptly ending the conversation, I was hit with 11 consecutive calls. One chap, whose English was quite choppy, was practically yelling at me, insisting that I should listen to him. I just kept rejecting the calls and eventually blocked the number, but they didn’t give up; they switched to a different number to keep harassing me!

Just moments after I put up my ad on Gumtree, I got hit with a second call, inquiring whether I’ve had an accident in the last couple of years. The first call was from the number 020 8144 3119. When I mentioned they'd gotten my contact details from Gumtree, the chap on the line insisted it was sourced from the National Accident Database instead. Both of these calls came from individuals who didn’t seem to be from around here; this particular one introduced himself as 'Kasper', and if you ask me, that name doesn’t sound particularly Indian!

Put up an ad on Gumtree and not even 5 minutes later, got a call from some Indian guy asking about my recent accident. I just played along, told him I was stuck in hospital with a broken leg and asked if he was gonna come see me. Then cheekily told him to bring some grapes too. That set him off, started hurling insults and threatening me about my missus. Proper dodgy bloke, full of it.

I put up an ad on Gumtree and barely a minute later this number rang me. Some Indian guy who kept coughing down the phone so bad I just ended the call. Then I got two more calls from other 0208 numbers, which I’ve blocked now. It’s really rubbish that Gumtree don’t seem to stop these annoying little pests!

I've seen quite a few mentions of this number, and wouldn't you know it, it called me just moments after I listed something on Gumtree. Luckily, I was tied up at the time and missed the call. I have a feeling it would have been a right bother if I'd picked up!

Got a call from a number linked to a Gumtree ad, with someone pretending to be a solicitor or accident claim firm. I said the car's never left my place and told them I'm a car dealer. I asked them to verify the registration, which they did and read it out loud. When I pointed out they were just reading it, the bloke snapped back saying "you best f### off then". Well, that's some professionalism for ya.

Like others have mentioned, I put up an advert on Gumtree and within half a minute received a phone call concerning a car accident from the past two years. I ended the call straight away.

Just received a rather dodgy call from a number that rang just before I picked up. They were going on about some alleged accident I was involved in. I quickly realised it was a scam, chattering away in a thick foreign accent trying to pull the wool over my eyes. I ended the call within moments. Barely had time to breathe when I got a second call from the same number, but this time they were professing their love! I wasn’t having any of it and hung up again. All of this came shortly after I posted an ad on Gumtree. It’s outrageous and frankly pathetic that this is happening. I've since removed my number from the ad-it's just appalling!

I've received a barrage of three calls within just two minutes! The numbers in question are 02081337598, 08880952632, and 01745847454. Strangely enough, all of them seemed to be about accidents, and they all came flooding in right after I listed something on Gumtree... How peculiar!

I got a call from this number not long after I put up my car ad on gumtree. Then a really similar number popped up too, ending in 443119. Both turned out to be those dodgy accident claim chasers. Didn’t answer, just checked them out online. So glad there’s sites like this to help!

I received a rather unpleasant phone call earlier, and here's how it unfolded: Me: Good afternoon. Caller: I'm reaching out regarding the accident you had over the past couple of years. Do you recall? Me: I'm afraid I don't. Could you please jog my memory? Caller: Why should I remind you? It's your accident, not mine! It's your responsibility to remember, not me. How rude! Just leave me out of it! *click* Honestly, the chap merely rang up to hurl abuse at me before cutting me off. I barely got a chance to respond before he hung up! 😳🤦🏾‍♂️

I received a call regarding an accident I was involved in, mentioning that I'm eligible for compensation once I complete the necessary paperwork they're supposed to send. I received a call where the person claimed I had abruptly ended our conversation. So, in a rather fitting response, I simply disconnected the call myself!

Right after I put up an advert on Gumtree, someone rang me up and started asking about an old accident I supposedly had (which I never did, obviously). I asked him for my full name and he only knew my first name, not my surname ;) He claimed to be calling from some MIV insurance or something similar. Then a minute after we hung up, another chap from MIV rang me from 02056973015. I told him that kind of thing is pretty dodgy behaviour ;)

Got a call from this number just now! Some annoying guy with an Indian accent threatening that if I hang up, he’ll keep ringing me nonstop! Was jabbering on about months of calls and then just slammed the phone down on me! Surely must be one of those scam numbers from Gumtree! Proper nasty behaviour!

This number called me, saying I was involved in an accident a while back. When I told them I don’t own a car, the guy got really angry and kept insisting I did. I ended the call and looked them up. Seems like they already had my details and knew I drive. Funny how they think we’re all daft!
