Total scam! Got a call from someone with a strange accent who said his name was 'Simon Matthews' and claimed to be with HMRC. He told me I'd missed an important letter from February 2018, and supposedly owed a whopping £25,000 for tax years 2012 to 2016. He warned I'd lose my car and house if I didn't pay up. I'm actually a NHS PAYE worker. I asked for their office name and address, and he said it was a London branch but gave a dodgy address. When I asked him to spell it, he couldn't and just ended the call. Complete rubbish!

Total scam! Got a call from someone pretending to be HMRC saying I ignored a serious letter from Feb 2018 and supposedly owe over £25,000 from tax years 2012 to 2017. They even threatened to take my car and house to cover the debt. I work as a PAYE employee in the NHS. I asked for their office details and they said some London office, gave me a dodgy address, but when I asked them to spell it, they totally messed up and just hung up on me.

I reckon this number is a scam pretending to be from HMRC. I got an automated voicemail telling me to ring back with my lawyer’s info and warning me not to ignore the message!

Just put this number straight onto your blocked list or auto reject - you won’t be able to call back as it just gets cut off. I’ve had calls from similar numbers with tiny differences, they always ask about ‘a recent crash you were in’. Lucky for me, I haven’t been in any accidents! No clue how they got hold of an ex-directory number and one that's on the TPS. Told them they’re breaking the law and reported to TPS too. Sadly, seems like nothing gets done to end this nuisance. Hope this info helps anyone wondering who’s ringing them!

Sounds like one of those robocall things. When you say hello it repeats it twice, then starts talking about a car crash. If you don’t say anything the call just ends, but if you keep chatting it connects you to a call centre.

Couldn’t make out the name or the company they said they were from. I got the reason behind the cold call though. A woman on the line said they had details about me being in an accident, which is not the case. Told them not to ring me up anymore. My tip: just block this number.

Now leaving this note which seems to match what others have said. Feels like dodgy callers are switching to mobile numbers since blocking annoying calls to landlines got better. Picked up and the line went dead - TPS is a complete joke. Proper fed up with these constant calls. If it wasn’t for needing to chat with family and work, I’d bin the phone and just stick to WhatsApp or Skype or something that doesn’t use a phone line.
