After just over half an hour, they were back at it! This time it was a bloke ringing me. Told him my internet’s down and it’s clear he’s trying to con me. They really don’t know when to stop.

I got a call from a woman with an Asian accent who claimed my router was acting up and said she worked for Virgin Media - which I’m not even with, by the way. I had a feeling it was a scam so I decided to humour her a bit. She asked if I’d noticed any problems with my router, and I told her no. She just said have a nice afternoon and then ended the call!

Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent saying she was from Virgin Media’s tech team about some issue with my router. She did say my number was on the TPS list, but that didn’t stop her. I told her off and told her to shove her router somewhere unpleasant before hanging up. Later I rang Virgin Media myself (the legit one) and, no surprise, they never made the call. I’ve now reported this to the ICO since this number has been ringing me for the 10th time in just a couple of months.

I get calls from them like 7 or 8 times a week, sometimes even 5 times in a single day, saying they’re from Virgin Media. I’ve told them loads of times I’m not a Virgin customer, but they keep saying I am and even mention my address, so I guess they've got access to some Virgin Media customers’ info. I always tell them to just disconnect the modem since I don’t use it anymore. That really seems to wind them up a bit.

These con artists change their phone numbers all the time. Recently, I fell for one pretending to be from Virgin and naively gave them control of my PC. Beware of this scam! They claim to be from Virgin Media and try to gain access to your PC by offering a new router and a refund. When things don’t go their way, they even threaten to show up and harm you. They sound legit with all the tech jargon and warnings, especially if you’re not paying full attention. Stay cautious!

I had a rather suspicious phone call from the number 020 81334148 at 4:08 PM on the 20th of April, 2018. The caller claimed to be representing Virgin Media, rambling on about security concerns regarding my router being accessed by unauthorised individuals in order to upload viruses. When I inquired about his name, he introduced himself as 'John.' Pushing for clarification, I asked which call centre he was affiliated with, but he flatly refused to disclose that information. I even requested an employee identification number to verify whether he was indeed connected to Virgin Media. Instead, he continued to insist that I log onto my computer. I firmly declined until I could ascertain his legitimacy and reiterated my request for confirmation details. He then explained that it was against company policy to share such information and abruptly ended the call. Considering the background noise resembling that of a bustling call centre and his accent, I got the distinct impression that the call originated from abroad. It felt very much like a SCAM, and upon checking the number after the call, my suspicions were confirmed.

I just had a rather dodgy phone call purporting to be from "Virgin," but let's be honest, they were nothing of the sort. They spun a tale about some ridiculous router flaw and coaxed me into checking what they called a log file on my computer - as if all systems share the same pesky log issues! Then came the nonsense about deleting a file which, funnily enough, isn’t even possible. They know that! Ultimately, they directed me to a website, www.help87.com, which is a spitting image of TeamViewer, and urged me to input a code that would grant them complete control over my machine to 'resolve' the so-called errors. In reality, they’d probably just load up some malicious software onto my system to harvest my sensitive details. Seriously, don’t engage - just hang up!

If someone rings me and then won’t leave a message when I ask them to, I always think they’re super sketchy and possibly quite dangerous! For me, that’s a big red flag right away.
