On the 24th of July 2020, sometime around 11:47 in the morning, I got two calls one after the other. They left an automated voicemail, which I saved. It claimed to be from "Officer Dennis Grey" at HM Revenue and Customs, giving a phone number 02081267134, which was repeated twice. The message warned me not to ignore it and insisted I should call back or otherwise expect legal trouble, mentioning my solicitor too. The tone and phrasing didn’t seem at all like something official from HMRC, so I immediately thought it was suspicious and likely a scam.

I rang them back and just gave some completely false details. They then went on about some imaginary person who allegedly stays in a museum and is supposedly gonna have to cough up £25,000 to HMRC in court. Such a weird story!
