Today (13/11/19), my 82 year old dad got a call from this number. The person on the other end said his name was Roy Morrison and claimed to be calling from the FCA, saying my dad was owed money due to some overpayment to his bank. They told him a solicitor would visit the house with a cheque but insisted first that my dad purchase an Amazon gift card worth £150, supposedly to pay the Inland Revenue. They even asked what time would be best for the solicitor to come around. Fortunately, my dad wasn’t able to provide that info so the caller said they’d ring back later. When I tried to return the call, the number was unreachable. It’s obvious this is a scam trying to rip people off. The FCA wouldn’t behave like this, and no bank would ask for payments this way, especially not £150 Amazon gift cards for tax payments. Please be very careful and don’t share any info like your address, bank details, or your schedule with callers like this. It’s definitely a trick to try and steal from you.
