My 79 year old mum keeps getting calls from someone pretending to be the tax office. It’s definitely a scam. I’m thinking of phoning them back just to see what happens.

Got a call from 02081231657 and they left a voicemail claiming there was a warrant out for my arrest! When I rang back, some bloke with an American accent said he was from HMRC, which immediately sounded fishy to me because that’s not how they operate. He wanted me to confirm loads of personal info, but I told him if he really worked for HMRC, he’d already have it. He kept threatening me with prison time for supposed tax fraud, so I challenged him to tell me my national insurance number. He just went on about avoiding jail and so on, so I ended the call right there.

Just like the others, I got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC. I stopped a policeman and as soon as the caller said he was from HMRC, he ended the call straight away. Pretty obvious scam really.

This number's a total scam, just like all the others have said! Don’t even think about calling back, just block it straight away. They’re trying to rip people off for money. HMRC would never call you with some recorded voice about owing cash - that’s not how they operate at all.

Received a call from 020 8123 1657 earlier, left me a robotic message pretending to be from HMRC. They said I hadn’t sent in my ‘signed documents’ and threatened me with an arrest warrant. Rang the number back and spoke to a bloke who sounded Pakistani or Indian, again said he was from HMRC, but when I questioned him he just ended the call!

Got a voicemail saying I was gonna get arrested, so I tried ringing them back but just got the ringing sound with no one picking up...

Just got a call from 02081231657, some bloke claiming to be from HMRC. He introduced himself as James Anderson, but sounded like he was speaking Indian English. He told me my account would be frozen and there was a warrant out for my arrest. Then he said if I paid either £300 or £400 a month, it would sort out my supposed tax debt of £4987 quickly. Otherwise, he reckoned I should get a criminal lawyer (like everyone’s got one of those lying around). Looks like I’m headed for jail after all. At least I’ll get three meals a day and Sky TV, right? Yay...

Today at about 11:25 am, I got a call from an automated voice claiming to be from HMRC. It said I’d dodged tax and needed to ring back the number they gave. Total scam, I reckon.

This number rang me earlier. When I phoned back and asked if they were from London, the person claiming to be some sort of investigator just ended the call straight away. Seems like a dodgy call, probably best to steer clear.

I got a call from 02081231657 with some weird robotic message saying I hadn’t signed some documents about tax stuff. I’m retired and haven’t had a job in over 4 years, plus my pension is so small it’s not even taxed! Seems dodgy to me.

Got a call from the same number, some bloke claiming to be David Miller from HMRC. He said I owed money and told me to pop down to a shop with a machine to buy bitcoin. Totally dodgy, watch out for this scam!

used to work for HMRC myself and this bloke called me, got him to drop the call 6 times! questioned him why he didn't recognise me since i used to work there, he was clueless. tried to ask what systems he's working with, no clue from him. he mentioned i'd be at 'the courthouse' within a day but couldn’t say which one and had no idea about the refund i got last week! absolute time waster.

Got a creepy automatic voicemail saying I’m dodging my taxes and if I don’t get back to them, there’s gonna be an arrest warrant. Weird part is, I just got a letter not long ago saying they actually owe me some money!

I had a call like this too, threatening me with arrest. Honestly, these scammers deserve to be dealt with harshly.

Got a call from some bloke claiming to be an HMRC investigator looking into tax evasion for someone else. When I told him I was with Essex Police, he just babbled a bit and then hung up. Not before the poor soul on the other end had already forked out £100 on shopping vouchers and scratched off the codes. If anyone here ends up losing cash to these scams, please make sure you report it to Action Fraud - you can find all the info online. They’re nonstop calling people and really giving them a hard time.

Got a voicemail from a missed call earlier, it was one of those pre-recorded messages saying my account’s been frozen because of tax dodging, and there’s supposedly a warrant for my arrest. These scams pop up all the time now, it’s ridiculous how often you hear about them.

Had the exact same thing happen here. Got a voicemail claiming urgent legal action was underway and you needed to reply quickly. Sounded dodgy to me but the call came from an 0208 number, which seems quite legit. Ended up just deleting the message straight away.

I got a call claiming there was a warrant for my arrest because of unpaid taxes. They phoned my daughter first, which really scared her! After that, they rang me and left a voicemail. The initial call came from 0300 200 3310, then they left a message asking me to ring back on 02081231657 - like I’m gonna fall for that!

Got calls yesterday and again today from 'HMRC' with the usual nonsense. Still no sign of any arrest though! Really think we should be telling older people to watch out for this scam.

He called up saying I had a warrant out for tax evasion and asked for £2400. I played along just to see how far he’d take it. Next thing he tells me to pop down to the local Morrison’s and grab Apple gift cards, £100 each, to cover the payment.

I got a call from this number saying HMRC was investigating me and that my belongings would be taken away. They warned I’d face prosecution because of some audit. It’s definitely a scam, watch out. Older people seem to be the main targets and they demand a lot of money, like thousands. Just be careful with calls like this.
