Got a call from some scammer pretending to be a police officer saying I’m involved in some case. For starters, they had no clue what my national insurance number was. Also, HMRC always sends letters if there’s an issue, I’ve never got a call like that. They could have easily reached out to me at work, but they didn’t. Plus, we don’t really have ‘law enforcement officers’ here in the UK using that title. What’s more, there’s no way I’d end up in court without proper notice. Received two calls, both of which were picked up by my answering machine. The message stated, “This is a Law Enforcement Agency. We're notifying you that a lawsuit has been filed in your name, and your national insurance number has been frozen. Please press 1 to connect with your case officer.” If there was any content preceding the “Law,” my machine didn’t manage to record it. I suspect that pressing one either leads to some sort of premium rate line or that the so-called "case officer" is simply fishing for my personal details for nefarious reasons.
