Got a call out the blue today from someone claiming my washing machine warranty was ending today. He checked my address and wanted my mobile number, which I didn’t want to share. Then he went on asking for the expiry date on my debit or credit card - I said no way. Not sure if it’s a con or legit. When I asked if they could send me the renewal by post, he said they don’t do that but would send a confirmation letter instead. I told him I left my cards at my son’s house to dodge giving more info.

I got a call today, 28th May, from someone claiming to be an insurance company for washing machines. They asked if my machine was still working alright and mentioned that my supposed 3-year policy was ending today. I was pretty sure I never signed up for any insurance on my washer though. Told them the machine’s too old to bother getting a policy, and that I wouldn’t renew anything. They hung up on me straight away. If I had a policy, I’d have asked for the policy number, what address they had on file, and which credit card company they planned to charge. Also, legit companies don’t usually call on the very last day of a policy to renew it. Definitely a SCAM!

I’m a bit iffy about whether this was genuine or not - I got a ring about a washing machine warranty. I actually got one with a 5 year cover last year, so to say it’s expired is rubbish when I’ve got all the paperwork right here! The bloke on the phone then claimed I must have bought a new machine, which isn’t true at all. When I firmly said no, he just ended the call on me. As always with these sorts of calls, I didn’t give any personal info, I prefer to be cautious and make sure I know who I’m dealing with first.

Got a call from a bloke asking if so and so was there. He wanted me to verify the name, then he just hung up. Quite odd really.

Got a call from this number where some guy was acting like he was trying to renew my washing machine insurance. I was quite certain I never signed up for anything like that. When he asked me how I wanted to pay this year, I told him I wasn’t able to afford it. The line then went dead - sounds like he hung up on me. The creepy bit is he had my name and address.

Got a call from some bloke called “Howard” trying to pitch washing machine insurance to my elderly mum. Said it was £9.99 a month for a machine that’s like 5 years old. Didn’t even bother to tell us the company’s name. Good job she’s quite sharp, otherwise she might’ve fallen for it.
