I got a call from someone who sounded Indian, he asked me to verify my name which I did. After that, he wanted to ask some questions about stuff in my house, but I didn’t want to get into it so I just ended the call.

She called about some educational books promotion but when I said I hadn’t signed up, she got quite pushy and snapped that she wasn’t going to debate it. Before she ended the call, she mentioned she’d pass it on to the enquiry team.

Just got a call from this really wheezy bloke up north, sounded like he might drop dead at any second! At first, I thought it had something to do with the time I was involved in cycling safety for schools, so I told him I wasn’t doing that job anymore. Then, out of nowhere, he ended the call. Bit odd if you ask me!

Got a call earlier from a bloke up north claiming I'd helped pay for school books and that he wanted to post me a certificate as thanks. I kept telling him I hadn’t sponsored anything, but he kept pushing that I had. Ended up telling him it was dodgy and cut him off. A few years back, a woman rang with the same kind of story, saying the company me and my partner ran had done the sponsoring. I reckon they must be getting info from somewhere like Companies House.

Got a ring from Safety Education Media about some sponsorship and they asked where to send a certificate. I told the woman I didn’t remember anything about them and she just cut me off straight away. They never started asking for money, but it felt off like a scam. Be careful folks, never give money to strangers calling you out of the blue or knocking on your door. Always make sure to check who they are properly before trusting them.

I just got a call like the others, saying about sponsoring a school by buying a book, and they said they’d send me a copy and one for a school I picked. But as soon as I asked a few questions, they just ended the call on me!

Got a call from someone saying my sponsorship book was on its way, but I had no clue what they were on about. When they asked which school I'd sponsored, that really got me suspicious - you'd think they’d already know that if it was legit. I asked them if they’d sent an email to confirm it, supposedly arranged back in January, but they said no. I told them I had no memory of any sponsorship or what kind it was, and they claimed I’d given £199 to a school. Since I couldn’t recall any of this, they said their queries team would be in touch with me later.

I finished their educational course and was told they’d post me a thank you certificate. I said I didn’t really want one as helping others was enough of a reward. They kept on about it though, so in the end I told them I’d report them to the City of London Financial Fraud unit. Right after that, the woman suddenly just ended the call. Bit of a giveaway that it was a scam if you ask me.

Got a call claiming they wanted to fund local schools, total scam. Best thing is to just hang up or ignore it altogether.

Got a phone call out of the blue saying I’d supposedly agreed to sponsor an ad in some school magazine nearby. Thing is, I never said yes to anything! Then they insisted it was too late to back out and I had to pay up. When I told them I hadn’t consented, the person on the other end got really sarcastic and even threatened court action! Honestly, these calls are so aggravating, just a heads up to watch out for this kind of nonsense!

Got a call from the same number, 0208 089 8422, claiming I’d signed up to fund some schools for £299. Then they started about a cancellation fee of £99 if I backed out. I checked the number on Google and found this site with loads of comments - really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences, helped me see it was a scam.

I never pick up calls from numbers I don’t know anymore, so this website is a real lifesaver. I just blocked the caller.

This number called me claiming I'd committed to backing a local school's magazine, which I had no clue about. I told him straight up that I'd never agreed to anything like that or even heard of him before. Then he started insisting I’d made a verbal agreement and threatened to pass it over to a disputes team if I refused to pay. Sounds like a total scam to me. Watch out if this number rings you. He seems to do some digging since he might call you by name or mention a nearby school to make it sound legit - don't fall for it!

Like many others have said here, I got a call saying my company had supposedly agreed to back some school booklets. They told me the payment was £249, claiming it was £50 off the usual cost! Definitely sounds like a scam to me.

This number won’t stop ringing me. Proper irritating. I’ve went ahead and blocked it now.

This number has rung my husband a few times now. The caller claimed my hubby’s company had agreed to give some money, but that’s not true at all. When we asked what it was about, he mentioned something about a school magazine advert, which seemed dodgy right away. My husband told him it didn’t sound genuine, and then the bloke suddenly started talking about a £99 cancellation charge! We’ve blocked the number now - just a heads up to be careful with this one.

I got a call from a really unpleasant guy, who was insisting I’d given books to some school charity - which I absolutely hadn’t. When I asked him about it, he hurriedly ended the call. Seemed pretty suspicious to me.

Totally dodgy call, just like loads of others have said. Best thing to do? Just block the number and don’t bother answering. Honestly, they should be put behind bars!

Received a call saying my business was featured in a magazine for kids at school, and that I had agreed to it earlier. Total scam, nothing like that was ever discussed.

They called saying I was supposed to pay for some sort of sponsorship thing. I ended the call right away and put them on block.

Had some muppet from up north ringing me claiming I’d agreed to sponsor a local school, like he’s some big shot. I’m not having it, I’m telling the cops and the local paper about this. We definitely need to get hold of his bank details or something, then maybe we can find out what’s really going on.

Just got a call from someone trying the exact same scam, claiming I’d spoken to them before about sponsoring a school magazine. It sounded pretty convincing at first, but when I asked for proof that I had actually agreed to anything, they couldn’t provide it. The whole thing seemed really well put together, so watch out for it!

Got a call from 0208 089 8422 and decided not to pick up, had a sneaky feeling it was some sort of scam. Pretty pleased I ignored it, blocked the number straight away.

I got a call from someone claiming I’d requested a callback about sponsorship cash for my local primary school. I told them I couldn’t recall any earlier call and that with the Covid situation I simply couldn’t afford the £499 they wanted. They insisted the course materials with my company’s name had been printed already. Then they tried to get me to pay in instalments. I told them not to bother calling again, and they said they’d take it to disputes. I just ended the call there. Sounds like a proper dodgy scam to me.

I got a call saying they wanted to thank me for backing a local school's parent newsletter. They asked if I wanted my personal name or my business on some kind of thank you certificate. When I said I hadn’t supported anything and didn’t want a certificate, the person got really awkward and just ended the call quickly. From the start I had a sneaky suspicion it was a dodgy scam. Would be careful if you get a call like this!
