Got a call from a guy with a strong foreign accent claiming to be from O2 and offering me a 50% discount. I asked him to verify what kind of contract I’m on and how much I’m paying. He couldn’t answer properly, so I just ended the call.

As soon as I picked up, they just hung up on me. These calls seem to be happening more and more often lately. I reckon it’s some firm that rings loads of numbers to check if someone actually answers, probably tidying up their contact lists before flogging them to other companies for a profit.

Somebody rang claiming to be from O2, trying to pitch a 30% discount. But when I asked how much I was paying now, they dodged the question and said they'd only disclose it after sending me an email - then wanted me to enter a code from a second message. They reckoned the discount would knock my bill down to £10 from £20 a month. When I pointed out the numbers didn’t add up and said a proper O2 rep should know my current bill, the call was abruptly cut off.

The call was really hard to make out because the line was really scratchy and noisy, sounded like they were calling from a busy call centre or something. They mentioned something about being with Three Mobile, but I’ve never been a customer of theirs. So I just ended the call and put them on my block list.
