9 yearsThis number called me and left a voicemail, so I decided to ring back. The man on the phone introduced himself as Officer Steven White, a crime investigator. He told me I was involved in a legal case in London and insisted I speak with a solicitor. Apparently, I supposedly owed HMRC money dating back to 2010, accusing me of tax evasion. He claimed he’d sent letters and emails to my home, which I never got. The bloke even gave me a case file reference. He went on about an HMRC audit and said the amount I owed had increased to £20,000. Then he started threatening my property, bank accounts, saying they’d be frozen, and even mentioned a warrant for my arrest! I told him my lawyer would be in touch. Later, I called back just to confront him about it being a scam, and guess what? He had nothing to say then.
