I got a call this morning, Tuesday 21/01, around 11:09. The moment I picked up, it just switched straight to an answering machine - so I hung up right away. Usually, that kinda thing makes me think it’s a bit iffy, you know?

After seeing other people’s replies about this number calling last Friday, I decided to block it. Still, my phone still alerts me whenever it tries to ring, and it’s done that five times over the past couple days - twice today, which is Sunday. I haven’t taken any loan apart from my mortgage, which I cleared years ago, so it’s clear this is just a scam, and a very annoying one at that. I’m also signed up with the TPS, so these calls shouldn’t be happening at all. No way this is a harmless caller.

From what I’ve seen, it looks like these folks get their info from various loan firms once you’ve missed a single payment. They start hassling you to pay up the arrears, but the worst bit is they keep the money and don’t give it back. You usually only find out when your real lender gets in touch. Real, trustworthy companies tend to give you a polite warning and only start chasing after you’ve missed two payments, not just one. Speaking from personal experience, I sadly got caught out by this sort of scam.
