Just got back from my hols and noticed two missed calls on my answerphone from numbers that showed up on your site! Happy to find out they weren't legit calls. Tried calling back but no luck, the phone didn’t even ring. Then it hit me I could just look up random numbers on Google. Cheers for the tip!

02080773119 - BE WARNED, THIS IS A SCAMMER. My elderly mum got two calls from this number, with a bloke called Stephen Butler claiming HMRC were suing her. He told her to ring the number to deal with some "claim" against her. At the end of the message, he creepy said “take care” like it was a threat. Proper dodgy! If HMRC had an issue, they’d write to you with a reference, no random calls. We’ve reported it to Citizens Advice and TalkTalk and they confirmed it’s definitely a scam! Don’t answer or call back.

Got a text from someone called Steven Butler at HMRC saying I needed to ring 02080773119 or the police would get involved. Sounded dodgy to me.

This number has called us quite a few times now. Every time I pick up, there's an automated voice saying something like "Important message for you from HMRC, either you or your legal rep must call back or legal steps will be taken." It sounded like the name was Steven Butler from HMRC, and they gave a number 02080773119 to call back. They even left the same message on our voicemail. My partner tried ringing the number they gave, but it just wouldn't connect. From the start we thought it was a dodgy scam call, so we tried contacting the actual HMRC to check and alert them, but the wait on their line was ridiculously long and we gave up in the end!

Loads of recorded messages keep coming through, saying I should ring some guy called Steven Buttler about a supposed HMRC lawsuit. I never replied, and it’s a relief to see on this site that it’s just a scam.

A mate of mine, who's 84, got a ring from this Steven Butler bloke. It really rattled her, but luckily she had the presence of mind to alert the police. They confirmed it was a scam, although it left her pretty disturbed.

Got a call from this Steven Butler bloke again, with exactly the same spiel. What put me off right away was the weird recorded message, plus I figured HMRC would send a letter first if there was an issue instead of just jumping straight to threats. Guess not everyone is as wary as I am though!

Got a call from someone named Stephen Butler at 9:22. He said I should call him back to avoid some legal trouble. It was pretty concerning, especially for anyone older or struggling. What’s strange is I don’t even use my landline or share the number with anyone. Definitely worth looking into. Pretty odd situation!

Some bloke called Steven Butler - or maybe Butterworth - dropped a message on my elderly mum and dad’s answerphone. He said he was from HMRC and warned that they’d take action if a payment wasn’t sorted right away. The number he left was 02080 773119, same as above. Thankfully, my mum phoned me instead of ringing the number back, and I told her that HMRC don’t phone people like that - they always send a letter first if there’s an issue.

I got a voicemail from someone calling themselves "Stephen Butler" claiming to be from HMRC. He said if I didn’t get back to his number, legal steps would follow. What was odd is he ended the message with "take care" but it felt pretty threatening, not friendly at all. I just erased the message, but I reckon if an elderly person heard that on their answerphone, it would really scare them and they might call the number without thinking.

For the last two days, I’ve been getting a recorded call from someone called Stephen Butler saying he’s with HMRC and warning me about legal trouble if I or my 'retaining solicitor' don’t get back to them straight away. Really glad to see others mentioning this too because I was starting to feel quite stressed about it. Cheers everyone for flagging this up!

Just like a few others have said, I got a call from a bloke saying his name was Stephen Butler and gave me this number to ring back. The voice sounded kinda robotic and the message mentioned something about legal stuff. When I tried calling the number, it just told me “sorry there’s no answer.” Weird experience!

Got a voicemail today from someone called Steven Batterly, claiming to be from HMRC and threatening me with legal trouble if I didn’t call back straight away.
