Got a call today from someone claiming to be from Avon insurance. The bloke asked if I'd been in an accident - I said yes even though it wasn’t true, just to see what they were about. Then he put me on hold and came back with a “supervisor” who asked the same accident question. He also asked if I knew the DVLA, and I told him yeah, I’m a police officer (which I’m definitely not!). A moment later, they just cut the call. Classic scam behaviour.

I struggle to hear on the phone because of my hearing aids. When this bloke rang, I also had the telly on. He just talked super fast and I couldn’t catch a single word. I asked him to slow down and say it again but he just hung up. I saw the number was from London. I’ve had calls like this before about some car crash, but from other numbers which I ignored. Got a call on my mobile - barely anyone has my number except a tiny handful of people. I was in a car crash just a couple of days ago, and seeing other folks mention this being some sort of car accident insurance scam makes me wonder if it’s a crazy coincidence, or maybe someone connected to my car insurance, hire firm, or the repair garage (all of whom I had to give my number to) has somehow shared my contact with the scammer. A1 Alternative called about an accident I supposedly had. When I asked where they got my number from, they couldn’t give me an answer. I also asked if they knew who they were speaking to, and they didn’t have my name.
