I reported it to action fraud - some people pretending to be from City of London police are calling elderly people stuck at home saying they’re sending out masks, gloves and hand gel. But then they’re asking for names, addresses and bank info. It’s definitely a scam, watch out!!!

Watch out for this number! They’re targeting older people around London, trying to push face masks and hand sanitiser on them. The caller even asked for bank info to charge £29. Proper scam.

I just got a call from 02080402745 saying it's now law to wear a mask outside and to press 1 to buy one. That's not true at all, there's no such law. Plus, if you’re not wearing the right kind of mask with all the equipment, it won’t protect you properly from the virus. Be careful, sounds like a scam to me.

The cops are looking for any details on these Covid scams. Just Google 'action fraud', then click the link for the 'police.uk' website and head to the 'reporting' tab. There's a form for 'phishing attempts' you can fill out. You don’t need to sign up or anything. It’s really quick, probably no longer than putting a comment here. If no one tells them, the police won’t be able to act since they won’t have the info.

Such a hassle, honestly. I tell them I'm not interested and they still ring me the very next day. There really ought to be rules to stop these companies. You block one number and then they just use another to bother you again.

My parents got a call about safety measures during the virus. The person said you have to stay indoors and they’d send 2 masks, 2 bottles of hand sanitiser, and gloves. They asked for their address, which mum gave. Then suddenly they said it would cost £29 and asked for their bank info. At that point she just hung up. Please keep warning older folks about these sort of scams. I've heard a couple others got the same call too.

Just wanted to raise a red flag here - I've been hearing reports on social media about this number ringing folks up, claiming to provide information on the virus. They’re apparently offering to send out a pair of face masks, some hand sanitiser, and gloves. Sounds generous, right? But then they ask for your address and demand £29, insisting on bank card details too! Thankfully, she hung up before going any further. Be cautious, everyone!

They didnt give a name but claimed "there's issues with drains nearby and theyre doing free CCTV checks on your 4 inch drains". The guy spoke with a posh southern accent, sounded a bit robotic though, like he was reading off a script without really listening to me. It felt very off and kinda like those scams aimed at elderly people stuck at home. I’ve flagged it to Southern Water to be safe.

This number kept ringing my house over 4 times today. They said the government will be sending two face masks to each home, then asked for my address. Once I gave it to them, they wanted my credit or debit card to pay a £30 fee. Obviously, it's a scam. I really hope they get caught and punished for tricking people like this.

Got a call earlier today from someone who sounded like a proper English bloke, quite different from the usual call centre voices. He was clearly reading off a script and kept talking about death numbers, which seemed really outdated. Basically, he was trying to flog face masks, targeting folks over 50. Said you could get two masks for £29.99. Nah mate, not interested, ended the call straight away.

The Preservation Group rang me from 02080402745 at 2.11 pm, and they were really pushy, going on about coronavirus and asking if I knew about the global death toll and stuff. It felt like proper harassment. I didn’t let him carry on much with the scam, but I reckon they might fool people who are worried. I’m down here in the South-West, so it looks like these calls are spreading around, pretty much like a nasty bug.

This bloke rang me spouting out old stats about Covid-19. He tried to scare me, going on about masks not working and kept asking the ages of everyone in the house. Totally sounded like he was reading from a script and ignored my dodgy replies. He ended up hanging up when he saw he wasn't getting nowhere.

Just like the last person said, it was someone claiming to be from a preservation organisation. He started by mentioning 100,000 cases globally and 3000 deaths, which felt off since those numbers are much higher now. He said they were sending out corona masks for people over 50. Then he asked me to spell my name and suddenly quoted a price of £29.95 for two masks (which I never agreed to) and wanted my bank card details. That’s when I told him he was trying to con me and hung up straight away.

Got a call from someone saying they were with "the preservation society" and that NHS PPE masks and gloves aren’t good enough to stop covid-19. They went on about all the deaths and then offered to send over two sets of masks and gloves. But then asked for £29.99 on my credit card. When I asked why it wasn’t free, they just hung up. Total scam, just trying to make money out of this. Be careful out there, folks. Best to stay home if you can.

Some bloke claiming to be from a preservation group rang me on about covid stuff, trying to flog masks and hand sanitiser for £29.99 for a pair. He asked if anyone over 50 lived here and when I said yes, he said he’d send them out but wanted my card info. I try not to pick up but since call blocking doesn’t catch all numbers starting with 020 (cos that’s London dialling code), some still get through. Just a heads up to watch out, especially for older family members.

Someone said they were from The Preservation Group and launched into a chat about coronavirus, how many people were infected and had died, and how the elderly are at risk. They then said current rules say we should all wear masks when out. I asked when that rule started. There was a pause, then he just switched to trying to sell me something. I asked again but got silence and more sales nonsense. So I said, ‘You’re not gonna answer me? And who exactly are the Preservation Group?’ At least he said ‘Sorry’ before hanging up.

Got a call like that today too, my husband answered it since they were trying to sell some sort of mask. In the end, he just hung up on them, but it left him feeling a bit strange after.

Honestly, I doubt there was a real person on the phone, felt more like some AI voice recording. They asked me to spell my name, and when I couldn’t, it just skipped ahead like nothing. When I asked where they got my number from, they said it came from some age-specific list. Seems like it picks up on certain words and reacts to them automatically.

Got a call from some scammer pushing N95 masks on folks over 50. Seriously, how desperate are they right now? I’ve already flagged it to the cops. The bloke spoke flawless English with a proper accent, would’ve tricked loads if he hadn’t run into someone who actually knows their stuff.

Some bloke claiming to be from a preservation group kept going on about covid and was trying to get me to buy masks and sanitisers for like £30 for two. He asked if anyone here was over 50, and when I said yes, he said he’d send them by post and wanted my card info. I’d advise not to answer, even though I have call-blocking on, it only stops certain numbers since 020 is London’s code, so it doesn’t block them all. Would tell older folks to watch out for this kinda scam.

Possible scam alert: I had an unsettling encounter with a man named John who claimed to represent the 'World Preservation Society.' Gave him a blast with a loud, high-pitched whistle through the phone, didnt seem to make him any more eager to sell.

I just got a call to my grandparents, who are 82, with someone saying they’re from the government and trying to sell face masks and hand sanitiser for £29.99. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM.!!! Make sure to alert any elderly family members about this.

Someone claimed to be John from the Preservation Group. Like others have said, they went on about Coronavirus and asked if there was anyone over 50 living here. Then they offered to send two N95 masks and some hand sanitiser for £29.95. I told them I wasn’t interested and they just ended the call. Definitely a scam.

Some sort of preservation group, I reckon. Seems like a scam, using the COVID-19 situation to trick folks. Mostly calling numbers linked to older people, which is pretty dodgy.

I've been informed that I'm qualified to obtain masks and gloves, but I'm in need of the banking information to proceed.

Got a call asking if there was anyone over 60 at home, saying they'd qualify to buy masks, gloves and hand sanitiser. Then they asked for my debit card info.

I let the phone ring as the number seemed familiar from earlier checks. Was hoping for a break from all these annoying calls! Seems like the scammers are back quicker than I expected.

Someone called claiming to be from the Preservation Group, going on about Coronavirus and then asked how many folks over 50 lived here. They said they were sending out 2 masks that are better than the usual ones and some hand gel. When I asked where they got my number from, he just said a manager would ring me back and then he cut me off.

Got a call from someone saying they were from Sean Preservation Group, wanting to send me two masks and some sanitisers, asked me to confirm my name. As soon as I double checked with him, he just cut the call. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

He said he was Tom from something called the Preservation Group. We told him we'd never heard of them but would check them out online. Then I just ended the chat. Found a Preservation Group on LinkedIn too. Also searched this phone number and have now blocked it.

Some bloke rang up talking about new government face mask rules. Asked who over 50 lives at my place and tried pushing me to buy 2 masks and gloves for £29. I hung up straight away when they asked for bank info. Sounded convincing tho.

Got a call from some bloke called Sam, he claimed to be working for something called Coronavirus (which sounded a bit dodgy). He was trying to flog me life insurance cover, said it was from One Life Insurance or something. When I told him I wasn’t keen and didn't want anyone else to ring me, the calls just kept coming from 02080402745. Ended up having to block the number. What a pain!

Some bloke called saying he’d give free CCTV for blocked drains! Wanted to know where the drain covers were on the property and mentioned there’d been reports of blockages. Bit dodgy if you ask me, don’t reckon any legit firm would be going door to door like this nowadays.

They rambled on with some story about what's happening, then suddenly asked if I was interested in life insurance. I left the phone on the table while watching TV, and they just went quiet and hung up. I've blocked the number now.

Got a call about coronavirus, which immediately set off alarm bells since my local police community team had just warned us about scams like this. I didn’t waste any time and ended the call right away. Then I checked this site to see if others had reported the same thing. Honestly, these scammers are the lowest of the low.

Had a call not too long ago, they asked how old I am, if anyone else over 50 lives here, and then wanted my name. My mum asked why he needed that info and he just ended the call. The guy sounded pretty posh and spoke really clearly.

This phone number called me but I ignored it. When I tried 1471 it was always engaged! Reading other reviews, it seems like a scam where they ask for money claiming they’ll send masks - which I doubt they actually have!! Could be proper annoying for people who fall for it.

Got a call from some lot saying we have to buy face masks because of new government rules. Honestly, these scammers are the worst and should be taken to court. It’s horrible how some folks might actually fall for it.
