3 yearsAround 4.30pm on the 11th of October, I got a call from someone calling himself Mark, claiming to be from the bank’s customer services. He said there was a £900 payment being made to Argos and demanded all sorts of bank details and security codes. Meanwhile, a mate called the bank from a different phone and confirmed the guy was inside my account, changing passwords. Mark warned me not to go online for a few days and said a replacement bank card would arrive within five days. After that, the bank advised me to report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 and get a crime reference number. The bank then helped secure my account again and sent out a new Visa card. The messages I got warned me never to share my security number, not even with them - we’d never ask for it, or something along those lines. Lesson learnt, disaster avoided.
