The line went completely quiet when I picked up.

I received a rather dubious phone call about energy saving, with the caller claiming we'd had a previous conversation. They were attempting to sound all casual and friendly, but it was clearly just a classic ruse to extract personal information. Pure scam artistry at its finest!
