But then they somehow already knew where I worked, which instantly made me feel uneasy. They even asked about my salary, which felt a bit too personal. When I asked if they'd be sharing the info anywhere, they said they make journals for people unsure about uni, showcasing stories from past students to help them out. Still, I’m quite sceptical about the whole thing now. I mean, can they really do much with my job info? Honestly, I wish I’d just ignored the call in the first place!

If it’s anything to do with a university, like someone mentioned before, where I studied they got a bunch of students phoning up alumni to check what they’re doing now and see if they’d fancy chipping in a few quid to the uni. On 3rd December 2014, I got a call from this number asking for my son. They claimed to represent his University and wanted to ask some follow-up questions about what he’s been up to since graduating. When I said he wasn’t around, I asked if I could get their name and direct number so he could ring them back, but they refused. (I checked the number via 1471.) They then offered for me to answer as his mother, but I wasn’t comfortable doing that without any proof of who they really were. They seemed to know quite a bit about my son’s personal info, which made me wonder if this was legit - surely if a call centre works for the Uni, this could be a breach of data protection rules?
