I got a call from someone claiming to be with HMRC, telling me they were starting a criminal investigation against me. I’ve heard about these sorts of scams before though - if there really was a case, you'd definitely get an official letter first, not just a random phone call. Pretty sure HMRC always sends written notices before taking any serious action. I’m not exactly sure how risky these calls are, but like always, don’t hand over your personal info to anyone on the phone.
