Got a phone call from some guy called Alan, sounded Asian, claiming my electricity meter racked up a £4200 charge. He asked for my account details to "fix" it. I wasn’t about to hand over anything without checking with my actual energy provider first - which was worrying because he somehow already knew who my supplier was! Obviously, it ended up being a scam.

I received a rather dodgy phone call earlier, where the chap insisted he was from our gas provider. He was rather pushy, going on about how we’ve been overcharged and demanding my account information. I sensed something was off and refused to share any details. After the call, I decided to ring up my actual gas company, only to find out they had no record of any such communication. Definitely a scam!

this guy calling from some "british gas" or sumthing rings me every week, proper annoying. we just mess about with him, puttin him on hold and swapping him between peter jones, deborah meaden and even duncan bannatyne pretendin they're on the line lol. he still doesn't get that we're just winding him up. we try and keep these jokers busy for ages, just to waste their time, ha!

Got a call earlier from someone claiming to be with British Gas. They said our meter readings looked too high and wanted to come take another look. Asked me for the meter point reference number but I didn’t share it, and after that they just ended the call. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

This number just rang me, some bloke with a foreign tone saying he was with EDF. Like what others said, he was really insistent, asking for our account info. He claimed there’d been a billing mistake and wanted us to verify our EDF info before a guy came round Monday to check the meter. I got a bad feeling about it and ended the call. Then he rang two more times, and I cut both calls straight away.

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent who said he was from British Gas. He kept talking about how we’d been overcharged and wanted to see our bills. Felt dodgy straight away and ended the call. Then he rang me 3 more times, but luckily my manager told him off and that was that!

This bloke said he was calling from British Gas. I checked with British Gas themselves and turns out he’s totally dodgy and just trying to scam people.

Got a call from a really angry guy with an Indian accent, yelling that it wasn’t a sales pitch and that he needed my details because supposedly there was an issue with our meter. I phoned up our provider afterwards and they confirmed it was definitely a scam. Watch out for this one!

I just got a call like this too. The person said our electricity meter was interfering with another company nearby. They wanted my meter reference number, which I found on a bill. It felt a bit dodgy since if there really was a clash, you'd think they'd already have that number before phoning me. I asked them for their contact number and details because I wasn't comfortable sharing my info. After that, they just hung up on me.

Beware, everyone! This is a total con! Whatever you do, do NOT share any of your information with them! By engaging with them, you’re practically inviting them to switch your energy provider and impose their rates on you without a second thought. If they call, just hang up - they can be rather pushy and seem quite credible, but it's all a ruse!

Got a call from someone asking for the accounts team, kept going on about a meter reading. I told them we work from serviced offices, and then they just cut me off.

I’ve had this bloke ring me twice already. Both times he was really abrupt, kept talking over me and was downright aggressive. He kept asking for our supplier account numbers and wanted to pop round to check the meter because apparently the readings we gave were way off (which we never actually provided). There’s got to be a way to get this number blocked, surely?

This bloke’s called me two times in the last quarter of an hour, proper pushy and a bit cheeky about getting me to spill the info. Told him if he really worked for our supplier, he’d already have that info. Had a word with reception and told them to just cut off if he tries again.

I got a ring from this number claiming to be from British Gas, going on about new renewal prices for our business. They mentioned something like a no daily charge, 13.15p per kW during the day, and 7.43p per kW at night. When I asked if they could send over the terms and conditions first, they said it’d come with the package and that I'd have a ten-day cooling off period. They asked for our company phone number, which I gave, but when they requested my date of birth, it didn’t sit right with me, so I just ended the call. Felt very dodgy. Then they rang back again but I let it go to voicemail. Unsurprisingly, no message was left.

Got a call from someone claiming to be Eon, said they needed my account details to check on an engineer coming out for a dodgy meter and a bill that seemed too high. Felt fishy pretty quick, so I barely shared anything. Later on, Eon got in touch with me, told me they’d had a weird call from some bloke with a foreign accent pretending to be me. Definitely a scam, watch out!

Had a rather obnoxious chap ring up, claiming he was inquiring about our electricity charges. He was persistently pushy and refused to accept any form of rejection, ringing me three times in total! I've now added him to my block list.

This morning I got a call from someone saying they were from British Gas and claimed my bill was over £5000. They said they'd come by tomorrow to inspect our gas supply and then started asking about who supplies our electricity. They wanted the reference numbers for our accounts, but I told them to ring back another time. After that, I rang British Gas myself to check if it was legit. Turns out, it’s a scam trying to steal your energy provider info.

This morning I got three calls from this number. They first said they were from EON, but when I said we’re not with EON, they quickly changed to saying they were British Gas. I rang British Gas myself and they had no clue about any problems with our account. When they called back, I told them I had already sorted it with British Gas. They got a bit rude and said customer service wouldn’t know anything about it. I made it clear they’re definitely not getting into our venue.

Today, on 2nd November 2016, I got a call from someone calling himself Harry Wilson, claiming to be from Scottish Power. The guy sounded Asian and his English was really hard to understand. He said our bill was wrong and that they needed to send an engineer to check both our electric and gas meters. Since we’re a business, I’m always wary of calls like this. I barely gave any info and kept telling him he should already have all the details he wanted. Eventually, he gave up and said it was fine, he’d fixed the issue. I’m pretty sure this is a scam, so watch out. The numbers linked to this call were 02075666777 and 02426227277.

We got a call from someone claiming to be "NPOWER", proper pushy and rude, basically talking over me about our bill being higher than expected. We’d already gone through this with them just yesterday around the same time, same annoying lady on the phone (she had an Asian accent and there was a lot of background noise). We told her if we think the bill is wrong (it’s a fixed one), we’ll get in touch with NPOWER ourselves. She then said customer service wouldn’t be able to help as it was something to do with the meter, which I honestly don’t buy. Sounds like a total scam to me. We’ve told them to stop calling us because it’s disrupting work. If you get a call, be firm and tell them you’re not interested, and get them to back off. Our team know to send me straight through if these calls come again, so I’ll see if they do ring back.

Someone rang up claiming to be from N-Power, pulling the same old trick about wrong meter readings. They rattled off a bunch of numbers and “info” from what they said was our account, asking me to look over the details on our bills. They wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I finally just cut them off. Total waste of time!

Got a call about a massive electricity charge and they said they'd send an engineer to inspect the meter. They wanted my electricity supply number. So, I rang my genuine supplier and they had no idea about any bill or call. Sounds like a total scam to me.

Got two calls today from someone saying he was from Scottish Power. The bloke sounded pretty convincing and even knew stuff about our company, but kept asking for extra details from our bills to 'double check' that our meter readings were right. I wasn't having any of it and ended the call, then rang Scottish Power myself just to be sure. Turns out it was a scam, likely an attempt to swap our energy provider without us agreeing to it.

This bloke rang me around six times during the day, all keen on getting our meter point administration number (MPAN). He was quite pushy, even getting annoyed when I didn’t want to give it out. I tried telling him I’d call back with the info, but surprise, surprise, I wasn’t allowed to do that! So, I got in touch with Npower, who confirmed everything was fine with our account. Apparently, this guy claimed there was a massive mistake on our meter and that our bill was over £9000, suggesting they needed to send out an engineer - but only after I handed over the MPAN. After speaking to Npower, I found out what’s going on - scammers are ringing people up, asking for their MPAN, which you wouldn’t normally share unless you’re switching suppliers. Then they use that info to sneak you into a new contract, pocket a commission, and vanish. It’s crazy how nowadays you have to be so wary even when someone calls directly. What a mad world!

Had a call saying our meter was faulty and they needed to cancel a bill over £7,000, plus an engineer would come the next day to replace it. He mentioned they could see we hadn’t used that much energy, which seemed believable at first. Then he started asking for loads of details from our invoice - that’s when I googled the number and found loads of warnings, so I just ended the call. After that, I rang Scottish Power to confirm and yep, definitely a scam.

Some bloke rang saying he was from Opus Energy, said there was an issue with my smart meter and asked for my account number to cancel and reset it. I told him straight up I reckoned it was a scam, just a trick to get me to switch suppliers. When I asked for his phone number so I could ring Opus myself to check, he wouldn’t give it. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Scottish Power even though we don’t use their services. I told them that, but they brushed it off saying it’s fine cause they’re under the same company group. They went on about a high electric bill and wanted personal info. I reckon it's a scam. They claimed to already have my info but still wanted me to verify it. I asked them to tell me what they'd noted down so I could check it was right, but they couldn't say. I ended up phoning my supplier and they said it wasn’t connected to them at all.

Received a call that claimed to be from some electrical supply company. They were bandying about names of nearby businesses, insisting they needed to investigate a supposedly malfunctioning meter. I contacted my actual supplier to confirm, and it turns out it wasn’t them at all. The caller's grasp of English was quite lacking, making communication rather difficult.

Got a call pretending to be from British Gas, saying they needed to check our SMART meter because our energy use was unusually high. They asked for info from my electric bill, but I didn’t give anything. To be sure, I phoned British Gas myself, and they told me they’d never ring up requesting account or bill details. Also, after getting a suspicious call like that, be careful about making calls immediately afterwards - you might still be linked to the scammer without realising it. Always check you’ve got a proper dial tone before you start chatting, or you could end up talking to the crooks again.
