This morning I got a call from this number but I didn’t pick up since I didn’t know who it was. Probably lucky I ignored it!

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Waitrose Wine, saying they had discounts on wine orders. It threw me a bit since I had placed a big cellar order as a present last year and was thinking of doing the same this year. I mentioned I usually order online, and then they told me that last year folks were sharing the discount codes with mates and family, so they wanted to stop that this time. That sounded a bit fishy to me, 'cause the codes seemed pretty generic anyway. They really caught me off guard and I nearly went along with it. When I asked how it worked, they said they'd just place the order for me. I told them no cheers. They spoke nicely and polite, which made it even more shocking to find out this was a scam. Honestly, one of the most believable and unsettling ones I've come across.

Got a call from someone saying they were from Waitrose wine. They were really trying to get me to place an order, quoting deals supposedly from Waitrose. But when I called the number back, it was just showing up as unknown, so I had no idea who it was. I even checked with actual Waitrose shops and they said they don't run calls like this. Pretty clear it's just a scam.

Picked up the phone and the caller claimed to be from Waitrose Wine asking if I wanted to place an order before Christmas. They went on about a deal - £15 off when you spend £120, which I know is legit - plus they promised another discount of £25 off if you spend £250, and free delivery too. I told them I wasn’t interested and didn’t share any info (worked in finance, so never trust cold callers). They said they might ring back later.
As soon as the call ended, I rang Waitrose myself and they confirmed that they don’t carry out calls like that and advised me to just ignore any more from that number.
Seriously, don’t hand over your info to strangers on the phone, no matter who they say they are!

I get calls from this number a few times each week, but they never leave a voicemail. One time, I actually picked up and it was someone claiming to be from the Daily Telegraph Wine Club. When I said I wasn’t interested, they started being really rude. Now, I just don’t bother answering or calling them back. It’s not worth the hassle.
