Got a call from a woman with a thick Indian accent, warning me that my computer had some dodgy programmes installed that were slowing it down and could mess it up. When I asked her which programmes she was talking about, she couldn’t give a straight answer and then just hung up. Totally feels like a scam to me - probably trying to get remote access so they can wreck your PC. These scammers are rotten and should be shut down. You can get pesky numbers blocked by your phone company, but they usually charge for that. Best to keep a record of any suspicious calls and block them yourself. If you've got caller ID, the number usually pops up, or you can call 1471 to find out who called, unless they’ve hidden their number. Caller ID showed this one as 'Computer virus infection helper' - yeah right, I don’t buy it!

Just had a dodgy call from some foreign call centre claiming to be linked to Microsoft. They were pushing some pricey software and trying to frighten me into believing my computer was in danger. Total scam!
