If you get a call from a number ending with 1212, it’s supposed to be the Metropolitan Police, but I’ve never had a real police officer ring me from that exact number. So, chances are, if it’s them calling you, it’s probably a scam. Just be careful!

020 7230 1212 is actually the Metropolitan Police’s actual phone number. I don’t get how scammers are even pretending to be from this number when it’s a real official Police contact. The police wouldn’t ring you up asking about anything to do with HMRC taxes or NCA warrants, so be careful. Just look it up on Google and you’ll see it links to the Metropolitan Police - the Police & Support Services division uses this number. Stay safe!

Got a call from a bloke saying he was with the Scotland Yard Fraud Office, claiming there'd been some dodgy use of my card in London. Bit of a giveaway it was a scam, but what worried me was he told me to call 999 myself - makes me wonder about how safe my phone really is. I haven’t bothered notifying my local cops about it. Looks like this number is already on your radar though. Any idea why it hasn’t been shut down yet?

This number, 02072301212, called my dad and was threatening him that he had to pay £70,000 or he'd get arrested. The bloke was really aggressive and got quite rude when my dad said he needed to check with his kids because his English isn’t great. Absolute scumbags, honestly. It terrified him since he’s very poorly and vulnerable. No need for these disgusting people causing more worry for him!

Hi, just wanted to share what happened to me. I got a call from 07261215935 telling me my National Insurance number was at risk of suspension due to fraud. They said they were from the Department for Work and Pensions. I played along for a bit but ended the call after a few minutes. Almost immediately after, I received a call from 02072301212 claiming to be the police. Then, after I hung up, another call came through from 08005871377 about the same "case". When I asked to speak to someone from the UK, since all the voices so far sounded Indian, they just disconnected. Pretty dodgy if you ask me!

Hey, this number rang me earlier claiming I was involved in some tax fraud back on 17th December 2020 around midday. It sounded like a scam to me, so I just ended the call right away without saying much. Felt fishy for sure.

I got a call from this woman with an accent, asking if I recalled a "recent car crash". I said, "yeah, it killed me" and hung up. Not long after, a bloke phoned me asking if I’d just had a chat with one of his colleagues about a "past accident". I confirmed and then cut the call again.

I reckon this police number might be faked by scammers. They've done it before with the police's scam reporting line! Shows how brazen these idiots are. If anyone gets a dodgy call from this number, don’t call it back - instead, report it through the police’s official website. The police will definitely want to know about it!! Just Google 'action fraud', find the ‘police.uk’ site and head to the 'reporting' area. You can then fill out a phishing report with the number and details of the call, no need to sign up or anything. Stay safe everyone!

Some bloke with a foreign accent called claiming he was with the police and there was a warrant for my arrest over unpaid taxes. The guy got pretty pushy as the chat went along, so I just ended the call. Moments later, another caller saying he was an inspector called back, saying the case had been bumped up. Apparently I had a debt but they were willing to sort it without going to court. They also claimed they’d frozen all my bank accounts and blocked my passport in case I tried to flee the country. Honestly, it’s unbelievable how brazen these scammers are.

Some bloke rang me saying he was from HMRC, telling me I owed nearly £8000 from the past decade and if I didn’t pay straight away, I’d be nicked. He said I could transfer to a payment plan if I gave what I could right away. He warned me not to end the call or it’d be breaking the law! Then he phoned back straight away, asking why I’d cut off. Total scam if you ask me.

He said someone would be coming round to my place, which freaked me out at first but then I figured out it was just some kind of scam. This number called me and claimed I’d been caught on camera texting while driving, warning me I faced a £200 penalty and six points on my licence. I was actually on a train at the time, so it was quite hard to understand what he was saying. When I asked him to repeat himself, he got quite rude and started shouting, even accusing me of swearing, which I definitely didn’t do. I felt really scared and uneasy. Later on, I looked up the number online and luckily found this forum. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone and that others have had similar experiences. Big thanks to those who started these discussions - I hope my message here helps others dealing with the same kind of threatening calls.

Got a call from 0207 230 1212, which apparently is the Met Police. They didn’t say their name but said the call was being recorded. They told me I was spotted on camera in London last Tuesday either texting or using my phone. When I asked who I was talking to, they told me not to interrupt. They also said I'd get 6 points and a £200 fine within 10 days. Has anyone else had a call like this?

Today I received a call from a number I didn’t recognise. The caller said his name was JON and claimed he was with the British High Command from the London Metro Police. Right away, he told me I was under arrest and warned me not to end the call or get anyone else involved. He then asked for loads of personal information, including my passport number and home address. After the call finished, I dialled 999 to report what happened, and the operator said it sounded like a scam call.

This morning, 23/6/2017, I received a call at 8:47 am from this number. The caller spoke with a kind of Pak*stani accent, attempting a British tone. He claimed to be calling from the Metro Police. When you get a call and notice a lag after you say "hello" before someone speaks, it's probably one of those routed international numbers. It’s pretty obvious because of the delay. Best thing to do is just end the call right away, because they're only gonna waste your time.

Received a call this morning at 08:20, purporting to be from the Technical Support team of TalkTalk. I didn't hesitate to dismiss them outright. It was quite obvious that they were using a spoofed number, which actually belongs to the Metropolitan Police. Plus, the delay in the conversation and the notably strong Asian accent hinted at a call centre based overseas.

0207 230 1212 shows up on my caller ID as 002072301212. Someone rang saying they're from the Police Fraud Department claiming my bank alerted them about attempts to hack my account and make unauthorised withdrawals. They even knew my name and bank. Don’t share any info with them and just hang up straight away. If a bank spots anything suspicious, they'll contact you directly by text or phone to verify transactions. These scammers are quite convincing though. At first I thought the number must be wrong since it started with 00207... so I tried calling back without the first zero. That call seemed to go through to the London Metropolitan Police, but it was a fake number patched through with a police message playing while I was on hold for ages. Definitely a scam to watch out for!

Got a ring this morning at 10.30 from 02072301212, though the caller said the number was 272301212. The bloke on the line, who sounded foreign, said someone tried to nick money from my Barclay's account - but I don't even have an account there! Got another call from some bloke asking for a Mr. Rollo - who doesn’t even exist - about a car crash that never happened. This nonsense has got to end! They kept grilling my partner, saying stuff like "we rang yesterday, I remember you, tell me about the accident," which is utter rubbish, and I’m not putting up with this rubbish harrassment any longer. “Investigation officer” my foot! On top of that, my boyfriend struggles with his R sounds, and he had to clarify, “I didn’t say gollo, I said Rollo.” I’m absolutely fuming!

I've been getting calls from someone who keeps insisting we were in a car crash, which is nonsense since I don't even drive right now. They keep pushing me to make an insurance claim for this supposed accident. Whenever I tell them it's not true and ask them to stop calling, they just ignore me. Today, they rang again, so I asked for their contact details and they gave me this number. I doubt it’s genuine because I even mentioned I'd report them to the police for constant harassment. Really hoping there's a way to block these persistent callers.
