What a ridiculous scam operation this is! They rang us claiming that, due to our consistent payment of council tax, we were 'selected' by the government to receive a sum of £7,000. Apparently, all we had to do was purchase vouchers from some shop in Luton. We’ve made it abundantly clear to them that we've reported this nonsense to the police, and if they dare misuse any of our personal information, they’ll be in for a world of trouble. We’re sharing this experience because we firmly believe that individuals like these have no place in our community.

Earlier today, our father-in-law received a call from these individuals who recounted the exact same tale as Abi. We’re planning to notify the Northamptonshire police, as that’s where these folks are based, and we’ll also inform the local council to ensure they’re up to speed about this scam.

Received a call from this number, but there was no voicemail left. Quite odd, really.

CAUTION!! Today, my mother-in-law received a call from an unknown number, with a chap on the other end claiming to be representing the government. He informed her that due to her consistent council tax payments over the years, she was entitled to a £7,000 refund. He wanted to confirm how long she had been at her current address and her date of birth so they could process the payment. Thankfully, she didn’t give out any of her bank details and mentioned a cheque instead. He then provided her with a reference number and instructed her to call 0207 1934101, asking for "his supervisor Derek Williams" to sort out the payment. My mother-in-law wisely chose to consult me first, and my advice was to steer clear of it entirely!
