Just got a call from a dodgy number pretending to be HMRC about taxes. Turns out it's a scam, using the same digits as the Central Criminal Court in London. Beware!

Just got a call from someone claiming to be from the Court and HMRC saying I was going to be arrested for tax fraud. Don’t fall for it - they’re scammers trying to scare you into paying. Stay calm and don’t give them any money, it’s all fake.

Beware of calls from +442071922739 claiming to be from the Central Criminal Court, trying to trick you with a fake tax fraud case. They tell you the call is being recorded and say there’s a warrant in your name, pushing you to quickly send £1998 to settle it out of court. They pass the call around among their team to stress you out and rush you into paying. The people on the phone speak with a strange Indian English accent, despite saying they’re calling from London. Honestly, it sounds like a massive scam to me.

These callers have rather heavy accents that remind me of Indian or Pakistani origins. They seem to be using a fake number. I've noticed that there's a group operating out of Leeds, and they seem to make their rounds every few weeks to target unsuspecting folks.

This morning I got a call from someone saying they were from the Criminal Court at HMRC, claiming there was a warrant out for me due to tax fraud and evasion. They asked for my full name and address, but I told them they should already have that info and that I needed to double-check. The caller was a woman with a heavy Indian accent. She told me to "Google" their number to verify it was linked to the Criminal Courts, then promptly phoned me back from a different number. When I mentioned I was recording the conversation, she quickly ended the call!

I just received a rather alarming call from this number, claiming that I owe a £500 student tax. They warned me that failure to pay it would result in my arrest or the cancellation of my visa!

Got a call from 07775104137, which I quickly sussed out was an HMRC scam. Told them straight up I knew it was dodgy and found the whole thing really nasty. Then, annoyingly, the same number rang me again straight away and the person just laughed down the line - proper cheeky move!

This morning I got a call from a guy who spoke really bad English, telling me I had an outstanding debt with HMRC. He said if I didn’t pay up, the police would come and arrest me. I was totally baffled and insisted I didn’t owe anything. Then he claimed it was £400. In the end, I just hung up. Watch out for these fraudsters and never give out your bank details on the phone. The genuine HMRC would never ask for that kind of info like this.

I had a rather similar encounter. An Indian gentleman rang me up, insisting that I needed to fork out £1050 to steer clear of jail, or something equally absurd. He was extremely aggressive and demanded I not interrupt him during his spiel. Strangely, he claimed that I couldn't use my usual bank methods and insisted I make payment via a rather dodgy-looking app. My instincts were screaming at me to be cautious, but to be fair, it took me a little while to gather my wits and send him packing. They employ such intimidating tactics, which is quite baffling coming from someone who purports to represent the government. Don’t let them prey on your fears! I urge the relevant authorities or whoever runs these services to do something about that false link claiming the phone number is linked to the criminal court. It’s utterly misleading and led me to hesitate more than I should have. What a dreadful experience and what a despicable individual.

I got a call from a guy with a thick foreign accent, his voice was both firm and sort of soothing. He told me my account would be frozen and I had to pay up right away. Then he rang again from a different number claiming to be from Old Bailey, saying I owed £500. It felt like someone was using my NI and DOB fraudulently. He promised to call me back, and when he did, somehow he was still on the line with me. He gave me an Old Bailey number, so I looked it up and found this post which saved me. I told him it was a scam and he hung up straight away.

I got a call from a guy with a thick accent, kinda broken English but spoke very firmly and calmly. He told me my account would be frozen unless I paid up. Then he switched his number and called again, saying he was from the Old Bailey, accusing me of owing £500. I reckon someone might’ve been using my NI and DOB for fraud. He said he’d ring me back, and oddly enough, he did, and stayed on the line. No clue how that even happened. He gave an Old Bailey number but when I checked it online and saw this post, I knew it was a scam. Told him straight up and he hung up quick.

Complete con job! They reached out claiming I was due a tax refund of £999 and even threatened to send the authorities to haul me away. I mistakenly shared my full name, date of birth, and home address before it dawned on me that I’d fallen for a trick. What a lesson learned!

I got a call from 01511048956 first, then another one from 02071922739. Turns out, that second number is actually linked to the Old Bailey, but scammers had spoofed it to make it look legit. They threatened me with jail time for five years unless I paid £1500 straight away to cancel an arrest warrant. I played along for a bit to get their sort code and account number, which belonged to Prepay Technologies Ltd Bank in Swindon. After that, I ended the call and forwarded all the info to my bank's fraud department. It seemed pretty real at first, so watch out for this one!

Got a call from some place called India Ascent, saying HMRC might take me to criminal court. At first they wanted £1100 but then dropped it to £998 if I cancelled the warrants. I work in networking and software, so I knew straight away the website wasn’t actually a .gov one. I played along and kept them hanging from 9 in the morning till 1 in the afternoon, then spilled what I knew about them. The lady sounded shocked and just ended the call suddenly.

Just had a couple of calls from these people, first from 01204208919 then another one from 02071922739. They claimed I'd done something dodgy with my taxes, which is totally not true, and that there’s some criminal charge against me. They wanted me to pay £1498 immediately or face court action that would cost me £23000. I was honestly quite shaken because they even knew my home address :(. But after a moment, I calmed down, hung up, and told my husband. It’s obviously a scam! Don’t pick up if they call and don’t fall for it! What a bunch of muppets!

I got a ring from 02071922739, some bloke said he was from HMRC. Apparently, they’d sent me a couple of letters that I never got, then started asking about how much money I make. I was pretty suspicious and didn’t fancy giving out any info. Next thing, they threatened to put a warrant out for my arrest before just hanging up on me. They kept going on about contacting the central criminal court number as if that proved who they were, but it all sounded fishy to me.

Today, my daughter, who is extremely pregnant, received a call from an individual demanding £2000, threatening her with court action if she didn’t comply. The caller appeared to be of Indian descent and was quite aggressive, continuously interrupting her, which left her very upset. After finishing the call, he rang her again, and she firmly told him to send a proper letter if he was legitimate, adding that she’d be happy to meet him in court. Upon checking the number myself, I was directed to the court, where they confirmed that it's a scam that’s been around for over a year.

I received a rather bizarre call today from an Indian gentleman whose grasp of English was quite limited. He claimed to be a representative from HMRC and proceeded to make some rather outrageous allegations against me, insisting I was involved in criminal activity and threatening imprisonment unless I sorted out what he said I owed. On 1st June 2020, out of nowhere, I got a call from someone pretending to be from HMRC saying I owed about £1,700 in personal tax for 2018/2019. They were pretty pushy, insisting I pay right away over the phone. When I asked to check their phone number, they tried to convince me it was legit, but I’m well aware numbers can be faked. The person on the line had a strong Indian accent and kept threatening that if I hung up, a HMRC officer would be at my door within four hours, my UK bank accounts would be frozen, and they’d seize my assets immediately. I got a phone call from this number claiming there was a criminal investigation on me for tax evasion. They said I had to either pay up outside court or face trial. They gave me a caller ID and a name, but I couldn't check if it was legit. They even tried to get me to visit the Central Criminal Court website to show the number matched, but the moment I told them I'd handle it through the courts, they hung up. Later, I saw plenty of other people reporting the same kind of calls on this site. Looks like just another con to scam people out of their cash.
