I recently received a rather alarming phone call purportedly from HMRC. The caller claimed there was an ongoing investigation into a supposed fraudulent tax matter involving me. They insisted I press 1 immediately to speak with a representative or risk facing charges that could lead to my arrest! It was clearly a scam, but it’s concerning how these tactics could easily fluster someone into hitting 1 without a second thought. It raises the question - shouldn’t there be more action taken to address such deceptive practices? There are certainly vulnerable folks who could be quite easily duped by this sort of thing.
