Even though I’m signed up with the telephone preference service, pay for caller ID, and am registered on the nuisance call list, I still get these annoying calls. Honestly, they stress me out so much, the people making them deserve some serious punishment.

During the afternoon, this number rang me. I tried to ring it back but my mobile provider blocked the call, so looks like they’re aware of this scam. Then, in the evening, I got another call from 0843 050 0645, which I know is dodgy. They only let it ring a couple of times before hanging up, hoping you ring back - and calling that number costs a fortune. Like someone else said, that first number probably just checks if your line is active, then the scammers follow up with more calls.

I’m pretty sure their main aim is just to see if the line is active. If someone picks up, they mark the number as valid and might hit you up again later or even sell your details.
