I added this number to my phone under ‘annoying caller’ so when they ring I make them jump through a ‘security check’ by asking their name, company, and DOB to get through to the person they want. Most times, they just say thanks and hang up straight away. Sorted the issue, haven’t had any more calls from them since.

I get phone calls all the time from random numbers. One trick that works for me is to say, “Hang on a sec, I’ll connect you,” and then just leave them waiting until they hang up. Also, like I mentioned in an earlier post, you could try asking them a set of security questions to see if they’re legit. It usually weeds out the annoying ones pretty fast.

A bloke with a strange accent - not British, for sure - answered and said something about doing a household survey. Got a call from some dodgy bloke with rubbish English, sounded like he might be from East Europe or maybe Africa, trying to say it was a survey about financial stuff or whatever. This kind of thing is getting out of hand, the government really needs to step in and sort it out. They should trace these calls properly and chuck those lot in jail for good.

Got two missed calls from this number recently when I wasn’t around. I phoned back and got a well-spoken American woman with a Filipino accent, quite different from the usual poorly understandable front-line callers they seem to use. She said it was "just a simple household survey" and tried to reassure me it wasn’t anything to be concerned about. I’d bet my bottom dollar these people are just fishing for data to sell on and scraping info for all sorts of dodgy sales calls afterwards. Despite being on the TPS, I’ve been bombarded with endless spam calls from UK and international scammers after dealing with them in the past. My advice? Give them a chewing out, hang up promptly, then report them to Ofcom as Silent Call offenders and the ICO for unwanted sales. You can’t bother TPS since they want the caller’s legitimate name, which you never get from these sorts anyway.

Don’t trust calls from numbers like 0207 345 1299 or 0207 101 7003 - it’s a total con. I’ve had this lady phone me loads of times, about 8 times a day for weeks. Oddly, she asked for someone else at first and even mentioned my old address from over a decade ago, which was pretty strange. She’s got a Chinese accent and tried telling me I’d won an iPad competition or something. When I denied ever entering anything, she insisted I must've forgotten and claimed it was linked to my email address. That’s rubbish since I get loads of spam pretending to be from my email all the time. They always avoid leaving messages on my answering machine. My advice? Either tell them you’re in the police and you’ll have them investigated or just hang up and don’t share any of your info with them.

Sadly, a rogue group is falsely using our organisation's name, 'YOUR VOICE COUNTS'. We're a genuine charity supporting individuals with learning disabilities in Gateshead and South Tyneside (Charity No. 1125719, Registered Company No. 6654142). We have absolutely no links with this dodgy firm and it's really annoying to see our name misused like this. People have been reporting these calls to the TPS, even though we're not the ones making them - the complainants mention the suspicious number listed on their forms. To address this, I've put up a warning on our website and alerted local Trading Standards. I'm pretty certain these calls are phishing attempts, aiming to gather personal info for scams or fraud.
