Received an amusingly similar call earlier in the day. They claimed I’d be eligible for £7000 for keeping up with my council tax payments-quite a laugh considering I’ve missed the deadline more times than I can count! What struck me as odd was their complete inability to mention my first name; they only had my last name. Cheers to Linz for posting that message; we were suspicious right from the off and looked up the phone number to find that helpful note. I didn’t bother with their follow-up call, but I’m tempted to ring them back later just to frustrate them a bit!

Hello, fellow taxpayers. Just wanted to share a rather peculiar encounter I had. A group of individuals tried to fish for our bank details, claiming they could deposit a generous £7000 directly into our account. Naturally, this raised quite a few red flags. Interestingly, they suggested that sending a cheque would be a safer option. But I couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that he mentioned those cheques have a tendency to go missing in the post! Quite the dodgy situation, if you ask me.
