I've received a call from someone claiming to represent energy services. Honestly, I'm inundated with scam calls these days! I just want to spread the word and help others stay vigilant.

I received a phone call from a gentleman claiming to represent Eon. He informed me that I was no longer under contract for my electricity supply and that I was being slugged with an exorbitant out-of-contract tariff. I mentioned that I believed I was indeed in contract and that I would look into it before getting back to him. He provided me with this number. Curious, I promptly checked and found that my contract had been renewed back in August, and the call I received was in December! So, I decided to ring back, concealing my number. To my surprise, a different person answered, representing a different company altogether. I asked if I had reached Eon, and he affirmed it, despite it being a different name on the caller ID. At that, my suspicions were raised, leading me to hang up the phone. I started to think it might actually be a scam, especially since Eon doesn’t use Indian call centres and the chap on the line referred to me as 'homeowner' instead of using my actual name!
