10 yearsReceived a matching ring today! What a nerve to request my bank info! Absolute scam!10 yearsDo not divulge any personal information to these individuals. This has clearly been a scam! They contacted us with an enticing offer of £7,000 to be credited directly to our bank account. When we simply asked for a cheque instead, they faltered and then unusually suggested we pop down to a local shop to contribute £95 to some government charity. Only then would they supposedly be able to issue the cheque for the £7,000. Really? What a ridiculous joke!10 yearsThis afternoon, we received a rather peculiar call from someone claiming to represent the “council,” informing us that we had been selected at random to receive a payout of seven thousand pounds from the UK government as a reward for our consistent council tax payments. The caller asked for our bank details, which, naturally, we were hesitant to provide. Instead, we asked if a cheque could be sent to us, especially since they already had our address on file. He then instructed us to call back with a reference number so his superior could confirm things. When we did call back, he informed us that she was occupied on another call and suggested we try again later. Quite suspicious, if you ask me! 😟UK10 yearsWe experienced something remarkably similar just this morning. A call came through from an overseas number, and a chap with a non-British accent began rambling on about receiving £7,000 from the government! He gave us a reference number and insisted we return the call. So, out of curiosity, we did just that - but ended up with an error message instead. Shortly after, they rang us again, demanding a £95 transfer fee. We clearly conveyed our disbelief and promptly hung up. It’s such a blatant scam!10 yearsEarlier today, we received the same sort of ring, trying to offer us £7,000! Does anyone have a clue about what their game is and what they might want from us?10 yearsWe received a matching ring and a young lady has proposed a refund of £7,000. We opted for the refund to be issued via cheque and were instructed to call this number immediately, quoting a reference number.11 yearsWe received a phone call from this number, claiming to be from the government, insisting that certain individuals needed to deposit £7,000 into our account. They started asking for our date of birth and full address, which instantly raised our suspicions. The urgency with which they demanded our bank details was quite alarming, and they failed to give any reasonable explanation for the immediate payment request. Stay vigilant, everyone!11 yearsWe recently received the same ring, but sadly we were rather naive and ended up sharing our name and date of birth. It was only when this chap kept pushing us to ring a number to verify our security for a cheque that alarm bells started ringing. Thankfully, we have yet to hand over any bank details. We've gone ahead and reported the incident to the relevant scam authorities. Now we're left feeling anxious that our personal information could be exploited for fraudulent purposes, and goodness knows what else. Honestly, we feel utterly foolish and disheartened for having been led to believe we’d be receiving a sum of £7,000.11 yearsWe've also encountered some pressure from them to provide our banking information. It appears they’ve limited their offer to just 3,500 individuals. The chap we spoke to was very charming, with a smooth manner, but he had an Asian background. To be honest, it all feels a bit suspicious, so we’d strongly recommend steering clear of this one.11 yearsWe recently received a call from this number, claiming that we were "selected" for a £7,000 refund concerning council tax. The caller asked us for our date of birth and, rather oddly, proceeded to request our bank details. We advised them that they could simply send the money via post instead. Shortly after, Chris got a call, during which we were given a reference number and instructed to quote that number when contacting them. Yet, as soon as we tried to call back, it went straight to voicemail. They rang us again, but we’re quite hesitant to return the call. Chris ended up speaking to them and we made it clear that we believe this is a scam, as we've already reached out to the council directly.Chris11 yearsEarlier today, we received a call that sounded remarkably similar to previous ones, claiming we were due to receive £7,000 in our bank account as we'd supposedly qualified for some sort of benefits. Quite frankly, it feels like a scam to me.12 yearsI had a rather odd encounter with someone claiming to be from the ‘Government Council Tax’ office. Apparently, they wanted to refund us for the past three years' worth of council tax, as part of some scheme that rewards diligent payers. They asked for our names and birth dates, but we weren’t having any of it as we had the number and a reference to follow up. When we tried calling back, there was no response. I can’t help but feel they were about to request our bank details next! Just a word of caution - stay alert to these sorts of scams!Government Council12 yearsEarlier today, we received a similar phone call from someone claiming to be associated with the British Council, stating they were offering a refund of £7,000. They even provided a reference number, which I suspect is a blatant scam. Everyone, please take heed and remain vigilant!British Council12 yearsI've just received the same suspicious call. It's clear this wasn't any government body; it was blatantly a scam!Submit Your Own Report (020 7043 3748)
