I've encountered this dodgy scheme on my computer.

I got really worried and dialled the number they gave, but then something felt off so I hung up. Later I learnt it was just a scam, so I rebooted my PC to be safe. After about an hour, a call came through from 0808 169 6673. They said they were from Microsoft, checking up on the previous call. I told them the issue was fixed and ended the chat. They’ve got my phone number now, but fingers crossed they understand I’m not falling for it.

Had a dodgy scam that froze my browser, but luckily I managed to escape it by hitting ctrl-alt-del on my keyboard. Proper annoying trick though.

I encountered a rather alarming situation earlier when my computer screen suddenly became locked by an alarming message that pretended to be from Microsoft, insisting I call a number for assistance from a so-called engineer. Feeling quite dubious about the whole thing, I decided to simply power down my laptop and restart it. To my relief, everything returned to normal without any hassle.

I clicked on a news image that popped up on my screen and suddenly got a warning message with a loud alarm and a voice telling me my computer was hacked and not to turn it off. It told me to ring a number straight away. I called, and a person took control of my computer, showing different screens and saying the problem was serious. Then they said they'd install some software to protect my computer forever, but it would cost me about £239. I refused to pay, and they just cut the call right away.

I tapped on a news image on my screen and suddenly a loud alarm went off with a warning telling me my PC was hacked and not to turn it off, plus a number to call. I rang the number and someone took control of my computer, flashing different windows saying the problem was really serious. They then offered to install some software that would supposedly protect my PC forever, asking for £239, which I saw appear on the screen. I told them straight away I wasn’t paying a penny and they just disconnected right away.

Like some others here, my laptop just locked up on me and I wasn’t able to close the screen. It was a bit stressful since I had important spreadsheets running. I looked up the phone number online and then decided to turn my laptop off completely. After turning it back on a couple of minutes later, everything seems fine now - it’s been about a day since it happened. Not sure how I ended up on that dodgy webpage when I was just scrolling through MSN news.

My laptop suddenly showed a warning about a security breach telling me to ring this number because my IP had supposedly been hacked. When I dialled, they told me to go on Anydesk.com so they could 'fix' things remotely. I was a bit suspicious so I ended the call. Later, they rang me back from a private number but I didn’t pick up. Turns out it was a scam, but it felt pretty legit since my computer seemed locked until I contacted them.

I got a message on my screen saying my iPhone was locked and to call this number. First time I tried ringing, I hung up before anyone picked up. Then some bloke with an Asian accent called me back asking if I needed help. He wanted me to go onto my computer so he could “check” the message. I didn’t trust it at all and refused to give any details or let him onto my PC. Kept calling me “mate” which felt odd. The message looked genuine but it's totally a scam, so watch out!

I was just browsing on Google when suddenly my screen got locked with a warning saying that Microsoft had blocked my PC to stop some kind of fraud. It also told me not to turn off the computer. I decided to call the number shown, using my landline, and an Asian man answered. I told him I believed it was a scam and then I turned the computer off and on again. So far, everything seems fine.

I ran into one of these scams where a fake Apple alert popped up when I went onto a dodgy website. I picked up the phone and this person with a really thick Asian accent tried to trick me into installing some dodgy software by setting up a link on my computer. Since I hung up, I’ve been getting loads of calls from unknown numbers, which I’m pretty sure is them trying to get me to finish the setup. I’ve ignored every single one. If you ever get this, no need to ring them back - just shut down Safari and you should be fine.
