I then interrupt with “Stop, please answer me - I’m expecting a call and want to know if you’re who I’m waiting for.” They can’t tell me their location, so I carry on, “You’re in an office, right? So where’s your office then?” Silence follows, and the best reply I get is “Ma’am, I’m connecting you to my Account Manager.” After that, I either hang up or put the call on loudspeaker and keep saying “Hello? Ma’am, can you hear me?” Tying up the scammer might seem naïve, but I figure while I’m chatting, they’re not duping others, especially older people, which really winds me up. With today’s tech, surely there’s a way to dial some special code during the call that records the scam in real-time for investigation? Or even a device that emits a high-pitched noise only they can hear? Or does anything like that exist already?
