Got a call from someone claiming to be from the Telephone Preference Service. They started off by asking if I’d signed up ages ago, then went on to confirm my address. Suddenly they brought up how I pay my phone bill by direct debit, and said the card on file had expired. That’s when I twigged it was dodgy. If my dad had picked up instead, he might’ve believed it!

Some woman rang claiming she was from the call blocking team at Telephone Preference Service. She told me the card I use to pay my phone bill was out of date. Like, why does TPS need my card details if their service is meant to be free? Plus, what my payment card is has nothing to do with them. I just wouldn't give her any info and after a while she got fed up and ended the call. Honestly, I had a laugh winding her up with daft answers.

Today, I got a call from a lady with a really thick foreign accent who said her name was Vera. She claimed to be ringing about some annoying calls to my landline. Got a call from a bloke with a sort of eastern accent, claiming he was from a telephone blocking outfit and wanted to speak to me by name. After that, he told me my blocking service was due to run out today - bit of a coincidence, right? When I told him mine definitely wasn’t expiring today, he just snapped "Oh, shut up" and hung up. Weird experience!

She then asked me to locate my updated card, which I told her I had yet to receive, but she was rather adamant that it should have arrived by now. I nearly fell for her ruse and was quite irked with myself for almost getting snared. Eventually, I resorted to my classic tactic of repeatedly saying, “Hello? Are you still there?” as if I was losing the connection. After a bit, I decided to hang up, letting her think she’d been cut off.
