At first, the bloke sounded quite friendly, with a proper English accent. He claimed he got a complaint from the Housing Office about one of our homes. The moment I asked which property he meant, he suddenly switched to a really aggressive tone, talking about compliance and demanding I give him the property name. Then he began asking if we'd got issues like mould or damp. I just hung up on him.

Got a call supposedly from Home Service about insurance for household gadgets. When I asked which brands or items they were talking about, they just said they didn’t know because they were only updating their files. I pointed out that if they were a legit insurance firm, they’d obviously have details on the products insured, so this has to be a dodgy call. The bloke then oddly thanked me before cutting off. Best not to share any details with these people.

Got a call on my mum's landline from this number, a woman asked if she knew someone (used my name). Mum said she was their mum, then the woman wanted to speak to me. Mum told her I don't live there. The woman hung up after that. Mum mentioned she heard other people talking quietly in the background. Really odd because I haven’t been linked to that phone number for nearly 50 years!

Got a call from a London number on my BT landline earlier today, 23 Aug 22, from 0204 5792368. An automated message from something called High Care told me to visit a website to opt out of future calls if I wasn’t interested. It went too fast for me to note down properly and then it just cut off. Looks like one of those dodgy scam centres, nothing new nowadays. I’ve reported it through BT’s scam page already. My junk folder’s crammed, over 1500 entries now. Seriously, don’t visit any links they give you - it could be malware trying to sneak in.

I keep getting calls from this so-called Homecare appliance insurance lot. The number’s from London, but the woman on the phone had a Welsh accent. I usually get calls from a Cardiff number, so seems like they’re all over the place. No matter how many times I block one number, they just ring back from another - proper persistent bunch.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from homecare insurance, but I don't even have a policy with them. It was fishy because they knew my address but still asked for details that should already be on file if they were legit. Definitely don’t trust this one.

Received a call claiming to be from British Gas about homecare for appliances. They actually had my full name and address, which felt odd. Right away, I was suspicious it was a scam so I didn’t engage much. The call came from a call centre and for the first 15 seconds, there was complete silence. It definitely didn’t sound like an official British Gas call. They tried to tempt me with a discount on next year’s payments, but I cut it off immediately and told them I wasn’t interested in changing any direct debit info - guessing they were fishing for my bank details.

I got a call from someone saying they were from Homecare or something about insurance for home appliances. They mentioned I'd had no claims in the past year and could get a discount. Then they asked me to confirm my Visa card details that started with a 4. Right there, I told them to send the info through the post instead and ended the call.

I received a call from this number on the 12th of August, 2022, at precisely 9:44 in the morning. A lady on the other end claimed that I had insurance for a couple of household appliances that were up for renewal and asked me to verify my personal details so she could locate the relevant documents. However, I don't actually have any such insurance, so I asked her to email me the paperwork instead for my review. At that point, she abruptly hung up.

This London number has been calling me quite a bit, like at 5.30pm and 10.30pm yesterday, then again this morning around 10.30. I’ve blocked it and reported it as spam every time but somehow it still manages to get through! Seems like I’ve had a whole string of similar numbers from London popping up over the past few months too, all of which I’ve ended up deleting. It's pretty frustrating!

Someone called pretending to be from home care. When I said I’d never lived at the place they mentioned, they just ended the call straight away. The number was blocked too. I’ve decided to block them and won’t be answering any calls from this dodgy outfit again.

They keep calling me but the number shows up as 'Screened' so the call doesn’t connect properly. This isn't the first time either, they've tried at least four times before and always hang up. I tried ringing back to see who it was but got a message saying 'This number is not in service.' Feels like it’s probably a scam or some dodgy business going on.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent pretending my appliance warranty was up. The number started with 0204 like one that rang me yesterday but I didn't pick up. I made sure he could hear me before I blasted a high pitch dog whistle straight down the phone. Of course, when I tried calling back the number, it said it was unreachable. Classic scammers, always trying the same tricks!!!!!!!

Got a call from some homecare guy with an Indian accent, saying my appliance warranty had run out. Yesterday, a pretty much identical number (starting 0204) tried ringing me but I didn’t pick up. When this guy called, I made sure he could hear me well, then blasted a high-pitched dog whistle right into the phone. Of course, when I tried calling their number back, it just said it was unreachable. Total scammers, honestly!

Got a call about our homecare deal 'bout to run out, with some discounts thrown in. They asked if we paid with a credit card starting with a 4, which is silly 'cause all Visa cards do! Just seemed like a scammer guessing about payments. Our real contract's nowhere near up for renewal yet. Totally a scam.

Got a call from this number today at about 12:25, someone claiming to be from Homecare about an appliance insurance policy. Got a call from Said Homecare about some appliances and their yearly cover, said the price had gone down. They’re apparently posting info through Royal Mail. The lady knew my name and address but wanted me to confirm my card details - which I wasn’t comfortable with, so I said no. The caller, who sounded like she was foreign and spoke quite quickly, finished by telling me my cover might be cancelled or something like that.

They tried to call me again, even though I had already blocked them before. Looks like they’re still up to their scams. Honestly, I think it’s about time the phone companies took charge and did the filtering themselves. I’m not really up to dealing with it all, but people shouldn’t have to handle this alone, especially older folks who are more vulnerable. Got a call from 02045792368 about washing machine insurance, sounded dodgy right from the start. When I confronted them, it was obvious it was just a scam.

Somebody rang saying they were from Homecare, saying my policy was about to run out. Thing is, I don’t even have a policy with them. What’s freaky is they knew all my info, even my partner’s name. I ended up telling them to delete my details from their system. Proper worrying!

I’m well aware of who my home insurer is, and it definitely isn’t some home appliance company. He got caught out when he mentioned my freezer being covered - it’s not at all. I just let him carry on talking, and then when he said I hadn’t made any claims… I’d only claimed a couple of days ago for a faulty water pump! He also fumbled with the monthly premium he said I was paying. Eventually, I ended the call. I reckon older folks might easily fall for this one.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with Homecare, telling me my washing machine insurance was running out. Total scam - my washing machine’s never been insured by them in the first place.

Got a call from someone who couldn’t even say my very British name right. They said they were calling from Homecare about my policy running out. I told them three times I don’t have any policies with Homecare, but they just kept switching things up - from washing machine to fridge, then freezer. I joked maybe it was a flux capacitor, and surprisingly they went along with it. After that, I ended the call and have since blocked the number.

I ended up picking up the phone twice, even though I wasn’t too keen. Both times, the people on the other end had accents that didn’t sound British. They claimed to be from some Homecare service and said they wanted to lower the cost of my appliance insurance. Thing is, I’ve never signed up for any insurance like that, nor do I plan to. It feels like they know something about me, which is kinda worrying. I told them to leave me alone and stop calling. Pretty sure it’s just a scam.

Got a call from someone claiming they were with Homecare, saying I’d purchased some kind of policy from them back in 2020 for my fridge freezer. Problem is, I never did. Then they started talking about an address I lived at years ago - 2011, to be exact - even though I moved out then but kept the same phone number. It was really strange.

He rang claiming to be from homecare and wanted my bank card's expiry date to give me a discount on my washing machine insurance. I told him I wasn’t comfortable giving the info over the phone and that he should send me the details through the post. Then he said the offer was only good for today and he needed the card info straight away before sending anything in the post. I asked him for a contact number, but he wouldn’t give it, so I just ended the call.

I got a call today claiming it was from Homecare about renewing some policy for my fridge and washing machine. Since I’ve never signed up for anything like that, I knew straight away it was a scam. I told them to take me off their list and never ring again, otherwise I’d report them to the phone complaints folks who can legally deal with dodgy callers like that.

There's always this awkward pause at the start before anyone actually talks, which seems to be pretty typical with scam calls. When they finally do, they claim they're from some place called Homecare. They guess at what I might have covered under insurance, vague stuff like “white goods.” Definitely a scam, if you ask me.

Just like loads of others here, I got a call about a policy from 2020, supposedly free in 2021 since I hadn’t claimed on it. They asked for my bank details, which seemed off. When I said I had insurance with another company, they pressed to know who but I told them it wasn’t necessary. Then the bloke had the cheek to thank me for wasting his time - that’s when I shut down the call and told him what I thought. Honestly, these sorts wind me up like nothing else!

Got two calls today from someone saying my contract was up for renewal and that I had already paid for it back in 2020. They asked for my bank card expiry date. I told them I wasn’t interested in any coverage. They kept saying I already had cover but it needed renewing. I told them to cancel it. Then I got another call from someone else, pretty much saying the same thing. Told them straight away I didn’t want any cover and again, they said they would cancel it.

I received a call from this number earlier, and the person on the other end claimed to be from Homeserve, discussing my electrical coverage. I was utterly baffled and asked for clarification, saying, "What do you mean by that?" To my surprise, they abruptly hung up on me! It’s quite likely that it was some sort of scammer who realised their cover was blown.

Similar to what others have mentioned, this guy said he was calling from Homecare, offering me a deal on renewing my domestic appliance insurance. I told him I was fine without any cover (which is true, I don’t have any), but he kept insisting I’d taken a policy out in 2020. Even after I explained I never had one with Homecare, he stayed firm on his claim. When I said I wasn’t interested, he said he’d cancel my policy - which doesn’t exist - and then just hung up. I’ve blocked the number now. For anyone who actually has a policy, this could easily trick them.

Got a call saying they were from Homecare about an insurance policy on our washing machine and fridge freezer we'd supposedly got back in 2020. They told me our credit card had run out and asked for new info to renew the cover. Thing is, we don’t have any policy for those appliances, and we definitely never replaced the washing machine. We do have British Gas Homecare but that’s for something else entirely, so something felt off straight away. Pretty sure it was a scam. Old homecare scam alert - If you’ve got some spare minutes, why not turn the tables? Act a bit daft - pretend you’re forgetful, slow-witted, or not fully paying attention. Toss out fake info like random bank numbers (never your actual ones, make sure to jot ’em down while saying them in case they want you to repeat). When loads of us mess around with these scammers, it stops being worth their while and might even get embarrassing for them. Plus, you’re wasting their time and lowering their big-headedness a bit. Enjoy messing with these scam callers!

Caregiver con alert - IF YOU’VE GOT A BIT OF TIME TO WASTE - STRIKE BACK Try acting frail, confused, or a bit dozy. Give ’em fake details - like made-up bank numbers (make sure not to say your real account and keep a note so you can repeat it if they ask). If loads of us keep playing dumb and dragging it out, it’ll stop being worth their while, or at least show them up big time. You’ll be helping others dodge their scams just by eating up their time and knocking their pride down a peg. Good luck messing with those scammers!

I received a call from someone purporting to be Sierra from Homecare, in reference to a supposed policy on my appliances that I apparently signed up for back in 2020, which is now nearing its expiration.
