This morning, I received a rather peculiar phone call here in Germany. A gentleman on the other end inquired if I was “Frau O…”, which happens to be my name. I was taken aback, as I had recently made multiple reservations for a forthcoming trip to London, leading me to assume he might be seeking clarification about those arrangements. Just as I was about to respond, though, he abruptly disconnected the call. Quite odd, as I received two calls in total. What a strange encounter!

Like many before me, I received a call regarding my supposed 'Standard Life' shares, which, of course, are now under the name 'Abrdn.' The lady on the phone had quite a noticeable accent and her English was rather choppy. She was privy to my name, address, and phone number, and mentioned that I could amend my details if I wished - then promptly disconnected. I'm inclined to think this is some sort of scam aimed at verifying compromised personal information.

I received a couple of phone calls from a lad named 'James Martin', who claimed to be ringing from a 'Shares & Marketing Agency'. He was keen to know if I’d be willing to share my personal information to chat about my Standard Life shares. The problem is, I don’t possess any shares at all! His attempts to clarify what he wanted to discuss were rather lacking, making it all seem rather muddled. He wasn't rude by any means, but he did come across as rather flustered and uncertain. If he's planning to dip his toes into the world of scamming, he ought to polish his approach a bit more!

He seemed rather unfocused and struggled to articulate what he wanted to talk about. His manners were fine - he didn’t come across as rude - but there was definitely a sense of bewilderment about him. If he's aiming to be a con artist, he rather ought to refine his approach!

It appears that these individuals are claiming to represent an American tobacco company, asserting they're in the process of updating my information. While they've got some details about me, the majority are completely off the mark. It's nothing short of a scam! They insist they're affiliated with British American Tobacco, yet they assert that they sourced their data from public records. It’s utterly baffling!
