Phone number ☎️ 02040639213 👆 is reported as a persistent nuisance scam originating from an individual or group falsely claiming to represent the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). Callers, often with South Asian accents, attempt to extract personal and financial details under the pretense of updating databases or protecting from unwanted calls. They sometimes provide partial personal information to appear credible but frequently hang up or become hostile when challenged. Victims advise against engaging or returning calls, cautioning that these calls may be linked to premium charges or fraud. Most emphasise reporting to Action Fraud and blocking the number. Genuine TPS services do not request payment or card details, and this number is widely regarded as deceptive and should be avoided.

I got a call from this number but noticed no one was talking on the other end, so I just hung up. Seems a bit dodgy to me.

They've called me a few times but I couldn't really hear what they were saying 'cause there was loads of noise in the background. Still, they sounded dodgy enough for me to figure out it was a scam and not BT or from the TPS. I didn’t give them any details, just told them straight up it’s a scam.

This number rang me twice yesterday, both times it was a guy with an Indian accent claiming he was from the Telephone Preference Service. He kept asking if we’d had any pesky calls lately. I told him he was the one being annoying, but he didn’t seem to get the joke and just cut me off both times when I kept bringing it up. Bit of a strange experience really.

Got a call from a guy, sounded like he was from the Telephone Preference Service, said he was from the Asian subcontinent or something. I told him I'd heard from a similar bloke just the day before, and that we’d checked him out and knew it was a scam. I also mentioned we’d reported him to the police and he was being looked into. Next thing, he just cut the call!

They ask for your name, address, and debit card info, but seriously, don’t ring them back. It might be a premium number and could cost you loads. Like someone said before, best to just report it to Action Fraud.

Has anyone got any idea where to report these? Saw on telly that they're planning to slap giant fines on these firms. I’m really fed up with getting loads of spam calls every single day.

I've received calls from this number repeatedly for the past six months. They've never bothered to leave a message, which means I’m not inclined to waste my time sifting through their persistent attempts to manipulate me into parting with my meagre possessions. Honestly, it's just tiresome.

Had a remarkably similar encounter; a rather suspicious voice with a thick Indian accent was probing for my banking information to charge me for what’s supposedly a free Telephone Preference Service. He had the audacity to claim his name was Justin Jones! I told him outright that he was a scammer and hung up on him. He attempted to ring me back but I simply dismissed it with a smirk. This is definitely a scam - steer clear at all costs!

Got a call from 020304639213 today, the person said my bank card was expiring in Dec 2016. I asked how she knew that and was about to challenge her, but she just hung up on me. Pretty sure she realised I wasn’t going to share any bank info with her.

I've been receiving calls from them as well. They seem to be from an Asian background. I kindly informed them that I wasn't the individual they were looking for and mentioned that I'm registered with the Telephone Preference Service and am ex-directory. They hung up, but alas, the calls persist. I've reached the point where I now just tell them to jog on. This tactic does tend to deter them for a week or two, but inevitably, the calls come flooding back.

This number rang me earlier today. They claimed to be from the TPS and somehow had my full name and address. They really pushed to get my bank card details, but I didn’t fall for it. Then they passed me to some 'supervisor' who started being quite aggressive. I told him to shove off and ended the call. Seems like they called me multiple times today.

I got a call from these idiots just now. I usually don’t pick up, always let the answer machine take it. If I actually answered every cold call, I’d never get a break from my phone. And I’m signed up with the TPS, so what’s the use? Honestly thinking about ditching my landline altogether. They’re really making things miserable for me.

Got a right pain in the neck with the same chap (sounded like he had an Asian accent) ringing me three times! The first couple of times, I firmly requested he remove my number from his list, but clearly, that didn’t sink in. On the third call, I picked up but decided to stay silent, letting him waffle for a full seven minutes until he finally gave up. He kept shouting "hello" and pressing buttons, causing some irritating beeps to blare out. Meanwhile, I carried on with my dinner prep, chopping veggies and keeping the washing machine running, so he could hear the background clatter. I just kept grinning through it all. Honestly, what a hassle!

I encountered a rather similar situation myself. A chap with a thick Asian accent rang me up, insisting he was from the TPS and inquiring about my direct debit transactions and card information. I got a call from 02040639213 around 2 in the afternoon claiming to be from Telephone Preference Management. The guy on the line said I could pay £20 to stop nuisance calls, which sounded totally dodgy to me. I just laughed and told him to get lost. He said something about saving me 2 to 3 hours a week on annoying calls. Then they rang back at 3 but hung up right away, no chat. Later at 3.25, someone called ‘Shelley’ tried again, but when I told her they’d already called 90 minutes earlier, she cut the call straight away! Proper weird.

I received a call from this number at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The chap on the other end claimed to be from Telephone Preference Management, suggesting that I could shell out £20 to stop those pesky nuisance calls. I couldn't help but chuckle and ended the conversation. He mentioned that I could potentially save 2 to 3 hours a week by doing so! Strange, isn't it? Then, lo and behold, they called back at 3pm but hung up before uttering a word. A third call came in at 3.25pm from a woman named 'Shelley'. SCAM ALERT! I received an unexpected call from a chap with a strong accent (possibly Indian?) who claimed to represent the Telephone Preference Service. He mentioned that my registration was about to expire and inquired if I was interested in renewing it. Strangely, he had information about the previous resident of my home, likely sourced from an old electoral roll or some sort of mailing list. Definitely a scam! I hung up before he could get to the part where he'd ask for my card information. Just to clarify, registering with TPS is completely free and, as far as I know, doesn’t have an expiry date.
