got a voicemail from some scam, sounded like a woman with a bit of an accent i couldn’t place. she told me to call back or else they’d start legal action if they don’t get a reply from my lawyer. i’ve already blocked the number (020 3997 9560) so no more hassle from them.

Had a call from someone purporting to be from HMRC. Only managed to catch the first eight seconds before they hung up. I've now blocked that number.

Definitely a scam, sounded like some robotic American voice. Best to just block the number and not bother answering again.

Got a voicemail from someone saying "hmre" - they said I need to get in touch with them immediately or something bad might happen. Watch out!

I got a robocall pretending to be from the tax office, saying I had to ring them straight away or a solicitor would get in touch or I'd be in serious trouble. I stupidly phoned back - wouldn’t recommend it. They asked for my home address and tax info. When I asked how I could be sure it was really the tax people, the person on the other end just threatened me with legal action and then just hung up. Seems dodgy to me! The call went to voicemail, so I only caught a snippet of the message - it was from 020399779560. They were saying not to ignore it and to ring them back. They warned that if I didn’t return the call or if my solicitor didn’t get in touch, I’d be facing some legal ramifications. Quite the dramatic farewell they gave too! Just a bit concerning, honestly.

Absolutely dodgy automated call claiming to be from HMRC, threatening me with legal proceedings. Total scam!

Just received a call a couple of minutes back. It was a dodgy caller claiming to be from HMRC, trying to scare me with threats of legal proceedings. From what I've heard, HMRC typically communicates via letters rather than calls.

Received a call around 11 o'clock this morning. I'm pretty much convinced it's a scam. They left a rather intimidating voicemail from a robotic voice.

A rather feeble attempt at a scam from some automated system...

I received a call that went unanswered, and they left behind a voicemail that was clearly a dodgy attempt at scamming-sounded thoroughly robotic and rather shoddy, if you ask me!

Those low-down scammers will get their just desserts eventually. It's only a matter of time before the universe catches up with them!

Clear scam, without a doubt! However, I must admit the little invitation at the end was rather pleasant, wasn't it? How charming!

I decided to ring them back, regrettably without having done my due diligence on the number beforehand. To my astonishment, the individual on the line claimed I was under investigation, with a case officer named DENNIS GREY. Allegedly, they informed me that I had underpaid my taxes over the past six years, and they’d allegedly made prior attempts to contact me-none of which I seemed to have acknowledged. They proceeded to state that a police warrant had been issued for me regarding a suspected tax fraud. I was presented with a rather alarming choice: either I could formally declare my intention to repay this supposed debt, or I could face legal repercussions-with police arriving at my residence in a matter of two hours. Naturally, fear got the better of me, and I foolishly provided them with my address and UTR number. I can’t help but wonder what I've landed myself in now. They urged me not to notify my employer just yet, as they claimed further investigations were imminent, with a follow-up call scheduled for tomorrow morning. According to them, the amount I owe is around 4,960 pounds, and they proposed a repayment plan of 100 pounds monthly. I feel utterly foolish for getting caught up in this, but honestly, aside from the police threat, they were remarkably convincing. I could really use some guidance on what steps to take next.

Just received a call a couple of minutes back from a right dodgy character claiming to be from HMRC. They were going on about some legal trouble and insisted that I should ring them back straight away. Total scam!

I'd suggest reaching out to your bank posthaste to halt any transactions, particularly if they haven’t yet cleared out your account.

Beware, it's a total con! They rang my father, spinning some tale about owing tax. Luckily, he saw right through it and pointed out that there was no way he could owe anything. They promptly cut the call! Don’t fall for it, folks!

I suggest reaching out to HMRC as well, as they might be able to assist regarding your number. Calls of this nature are hardly ever legitimate, so it’s wise to verify any phone numbers before returning a call. A quick online search could reveal what others have encountered with that number. A reputable company wouldn't resort to threats involving the police; particularly with HMRC, they hold your address and would have corresponded via letter. Any communication originating from a mere mobile number should be treated with scepticism. If you're genuinely worried, locate the official number online and contact them directly-avoid using any provided links! Hope this advice proves useful.

I once resided in the parts of South East London that appear to be in the thick of it, yet I’m now based in the Midlands. I've had a couple of calls from them. The initial voicemail was utterly silent and stretched on for three minutes-quite baffling, really. The second time, I received one of those automated messages that seem to be doing the rounds; it was a rather alarming spiel about potential legal repercussions from HMRC. And as if that wasn't enough, they added a charming little note to "take care." Quite unsettling, I must say!
