Got a call about a tax rebate, and they asked if I’d worked more than 4 years, if I was in full time job, and something else I can’t quite recall. Even so, they said I was eligible for a rebate. That set off alarm bells for me, and I was a bit doubtful about it, so I told them I’d ring back tomorrow.

Got a call saying they were sending renewal papers for kitchen appliance insurance. I told them I don’t even have that kinda insurance, but he insisted I’d been paying by direct debit since 2017. Then he mentioned my old address, which I left over a decade ago, so I told him there’s no way I took out insurance that recently. He kept pushing, asking for my current address. Luckily, I’m not daft and didn’t give anything away, but I can see how someone else in the house might get fooled. Proper dodgy behaviour.

Some bloke rang me saying it was about white goods insurance and that he had my credit card details to charge me. 02039875198 from London called me too, and so did 0115 6666524 from Nottingham today but with a gap of about 3 and a half hours. I’ve blocked both and reported them to Action Fraud as phishing scams. Best not to pick up if these numbers show up.

Some bloke called Michael saying he was with Domestic and General, trying to sell me coverage for all my kitchen appliances for £129. He kept going on saying I’m a low risk customer and was really pushy about getting my debit card details.

Some bloke rang me claiming to be from Homecare, saying I qualified for a cut in my yearly bill even tho I’d never contacted them before. I asked him straight up what my current payments were, but he just said it’s not about how much I pay, it’s about a discount I’m supposed to get. Couldn’t get him to explain what exactly I was supposedly paying for in the first place.

Got a call from a woman chatting about debt consolidation. I asked if it was a sales call, she said no, then went straight into trying to sell me stuff. So I asked her if she even knew what a sales call meant or what her job was. She just said I didn’t get English and ended the call. Probably my bad. Maybe I should have asked if it was a scam call rather than a sales call.

He said he was calling from some Government Debt Help thing and wanted to push an IVA on me, which is like a debt payoff scheme. Didn’t really explain things properly, but from what I gathered they earn by tacking on extra fees (which they didn’t say how much) to your debt and stretch out how long you pay it back. The call seemed to come from somewhere in Asia and the guy was really pushy, ringing me up twice a day. So yeah, I reckon he's only after what’s good for him, not me.

Got a call today from this number, supposedly about renewing my home appliances insurance. The bloke sounded more keen on getting my credit card expiry date than anything else. He had an Asian accent and said he was calling from the UK, so I asked for the company’s phone number. While he was still on the line, I checked the number on Companies House. Not surprisingly, it didn’t show up anywhere. After that, he just hung up. Just a heads up, they are also using the number 02039 720 372.

Woman with a complicated name who kept mispronouncing mine. Claimed she was calling from a home care service about my insurance for electrical gadgets. I told her I hadn’t got any policy. She said why else would she ring me then. She mentioned the policy was active since 2018. When I asked what it covered, she said washing machine, fridge freezer and TV. I insisted I didn’t have such a policy. Just as I was about to ask where these items were located, she suddenly apologised and ended the call. Shame really, it’s a dull Monday and I was actually having a bit of fun with it!
