Got a voicemail claiming to be Officer Karen Reed from HMRC, saying it’s urgent and I need to ring back on 02039656935, or else there’ll be legal trouble. The message was spouted by some robot-looking voice with a weird American accent. Definitely sounds dodgy to me.

They then asked me for my name, to which I replied that they should already know it. The guy on the other end, who sounded Indian, started shouting and being rude, so I ended up blocking them.

Got a voicemail from some woman claiming she was with HMRC, saying either me or my lawyer had to get back to her or else there’d be trouble. Honestly, so ridiculous. Imagine if an elderly person got that and freaked out. Proper nasty stuff. Anyway, I’ve blocked the number now.

I got a creepy voicemail from 020 3965 6935. When I rang back, a woman with an accent, maybe Indian, started asking me for info about some Inland Revenue investigation. I didn’t fall for it and said no. Then she threatened about police coming if I didn’t cooperate! Total scam. Ended the call and blocked them straight away.

They never even explained why they were calling, which is super dodgy since HMRC deals with loads of stuff - tax, tax credits, you name it (been there, done that at HMRC myself!). My partner, who's not from the UK, got a call from someone saying they were "Karen Reed from HMRC" using this robotic voice that sounded totally North American. It seemed dodgy straight away, so I rang back. This time an "Edward Miles" answered, speaking with an Indian accent. He said he worked for HMRC and gave some employee number, 49186 or something. He quickly went into threatening mode, which made it obvious it was a scam, but honestly it sounded a bit more slick than a lot of the usual nonsense calls.

I got a call from someone claiming to be "Officer Karen Reed" saying they were from HMRC, but the voice was robotic and sounded American. I find it odd because any legit government message I’ve ever heard comes with a proper British accent. Most Brits would spot this straight away, but I worry it could really catch out young people or newcomers to the UK who might not know better. I didn’t stay on the line long enough to hear everything, but I reckon if you ring back, it might be a premium number or they'll try and get your bank stuff. I’m just blocking it without a second thought.

Got a missed call from this number and rang it back, some Indian guy said he was with HMRC. Felt dodgy straight away so I hung up and blocked the number. Then later I got a voicemail from "Officer Karen" saying I’m gonna face legal trouble, sounded like a robot. Total scam, the police really should shut this number down.

I've been bombarded by a whole bunch of 020 and 0843 numbers lately. As soon as I see their calls, I don't hesitate to block them. In November, I received calls from 08438770322, 02039703043, 08438689855, 02039238996, and 08438775433. Then moving into December, there was 08451340189, followed by 02039929925 just yesterday, and today I've had 02039977255 and 02039656935 ringing me up too! It's rather frustrating, as I’ve even noticed some of these nuisance calls coming from what look like regular landline numbers.

I got a voicemail from them about some unpaid taxes that apparently need sorting out or else you’ll face prosecution. Sounds like a proper scam. They were really rude too, trying to trick folks. Best thing to do is just block their number and make sure you report it. Don’t fall for it!

This HMRC scam has been around forever, honestly. I’ve heard about it loads of times. Whenever you get one of these dodgy calls, definitely make sure you report it on the police’s Action Fraud site. Also, there’s a spot on this site above the map where you can report it straight to HMRC as well. If people actually take the time to report these, maybe we can slow these scams down!

Got a call with a prerecorded robotic voice pretending to be from HMRC. It told me to ring back, but only if I had my solicitor with me, otherwise, there’d be some serious legal trouble coming my way. I was pretty sure it was a con, but I called anyway. A bloke picked up and said “Hello, HMRC.” When I asked what department he was from, he said “money laundering.” Asked for his name, but he wouldn’t say and just ended the call.
