Naturally, I turned it down. It seems I'm not the only one; others have reported getting similar calls as well. Clearly, it's all a bit dodgy!

Got a call saying I was a finalist in a TV word search contest I supposedly entered ages ago, asking how I'd spend £10,000!! I barely replied, just said OK, and asked what else they wanted. They said nothing, just letting me know I'd won. As usual, I refused to give any details and blocked the caller. I knew it was dodgy, plus checked here to be sure. You always wanna hope it’s legit, but it’s clear how folks get tricked.

my partner took part in a free word search contest on tv ages ago and just got two calls today, one from a bloke and then a lady. they asked if he was a lucky winner and what he’d spend any prize money on. then they tried to get him to buy a word search book, said it was free but you had to cover the postage and packing. he’s apparently now in a draw to see if he wins. feels like a total scam to me, they don’t ask for bank details straight away but get them once you pay for the word search book.

A young bloke called saying I’d entered some word search contest (called James Bond or summat) and that I’d made it through to the next round at the end of August where I could win £26,000. He asked what I’d do if I won. I told him not much really cos I’m stuck indoors most days. He chuckled and said good luck for the next round. He even said my address without me telling him, so looks like he’s got that info from somewhere else.

I've encountered a similar situation. The caller pretended to represent a word search firm associated with ITV. I must confess, I was actually engaging in a word search when they called and managed to get the answer they were looking for. However, they wanted to send me a complimentary word search book but insisted on charging me for postage. I politely declined and ended the call. Got a call from Tyrone at Word Search after seeing a TV ad, this was the third time he rang. From what he said, it was clear I hadn’t won £15k but he wanted my phone number, address and then £1.95 for a word search book to enter an August contest. They really shouldn’t be allowed to advertise on telly cos it makes you think it’s a legit competition. When he asked for payment info I told him straight away it was a scam. ITV or the Advertising Authority should be responsible for checking who’s allowed to advertise.

I gave them my bank info and only after reading these reviews did i get worried. But when i checked my account, just the £1.95 we agreed on was taken. I waited before posting to see if the book would ever arrive, and it actually did. People should really check the facts before trying to scare others like this.

This number called me and I had a look on this site, saw loads of negative reviews and was about to assume it was dodgy. But most of the bad comments were people claiming it was a scam without any real evidence. So, I decided to test it out myself and paid with my Mastercard, knowing I could get a refund if needed. They only charged the £1.95 like they said and honestly, I was pretty satisfied with what I got! :)

i got a call about a contest i supposedly took part in on itv, which was legit, and they offered me a wordsearch book with some lottery scratch cards as a prize for being a finalist, just asked for £1.95 postage. i decided to go for it, did the checks they needed and paid with my visa card. at first i was a bit iffy, but figured something on tv probably wouldnt be dodgy so i went ahead. the whole thing went smoothly, really good service, now just waiting for my book to arrive!

Got a call from a bloke called Reece saying I’d won a TV contest and gave the correct answer, which I did. He mentioned the prize draw would happen in August. Then he pushed an offer to win extra prizes by getting a competition booklet, just paying £1.95 postage. After that, it turned into an £8 subscription. Weirdly, he had my address minus the postcode and full name. Felt dodgy giving my bank info, so I ended the call and searched the number online which led me here. Can people really hack TV contest details? I guess anything's possible. Be careful out there!

Someone rang me saying they were from the ITV word search competition and that I’d made it to the final draw in August. I’ve been getting calls like this a few times after I entered that ‘James Bond’ word search competition on telly. Plus, they’ve sent me unsolicited post too, all saying they wanted to check if I got their letter and why I hadn’t finished the entry for another big prize. Just like others mentioned, I found it odd that when I picked up the phone there was a delay before the call connected - instantly made me wary! Then this young woman started by saying my name, telling me I’d won some contest involving a word search and ‘James Bond’ was the answer. I told her I never took part in any competition. Right away she replied, ‘Oh sorry, must have dialled the wrong number,’ and hung up. These scammers are the lowest of the low and I hope they get what’s coming to them one day.
