So, Ive found out that IFF Research is a legit research firm and they do have contracts with the UK government now and then. Still, their official phone number begins with 0207. So, if you get a call from a 0203 number saying they’re IFF, its probably a scam.

I rang them back after my mate answered and they said they were from HMRC. But when I got through, they said they were IFF Research. Dunno if thats legit or not. The call seemed to get passed about while I was on hold, so maybe they know what theyre doing.

I asked which course it was and said I needed to check with my trainer first. The bloke on the phone quickly said sorry and ended the call. This happened at 5pm on a Sunday evening. Not sure if it was genuine or a scam. Why don’t these lot just send an email survey instead?

Some bloke saying he was Jason from HMRC gave me a ring, said it was a survey about going digital. Wouldn’t accept a simple no, kept saying the deadline was today. Asked who does our bookkeeping and what our turnover is (erm, if you’re HMRC, you can check that yourself, I have to file annual turnover as a business anyway). Definitely another dodgy scammer, just like all the rest.

Someone rang my workplace claiming to be from HMRC. They were looking for a financial adviser. When I asked for the person's name, they couldn’t provide one. Seemed dodgy to me - if it’s serious, you'd expect them to know exactly who they want. I told them I couldn’t connect the call without a name and they said they’d ring back later. Honestly, it felt a bit strange!

Lately, when they call, they just cut off on the first ring and then phone back a bit later, probably trying not to catch me again. Too bad for them, I’m the only one who picks up this number. Honestly, it’s pretty cheeky of them to hang up like that, but I’m happy to keep it up for ages - I’ve done it before. Just use the email address instead; that’s the only way you’ll get through.

Survey folks keep ringing even though we've said plenty of times we don't do these unsolicited calls. We gave them an email for the questionnaire, but they say they can't send it that way, though some of their team members have actually done that before.
