They were claiming to offer deals on brand new phones for ridiculously cheap prices, saying they’d take over your current contract and all that. Usually, these scams go like this: once you say yes and give them your personal info, they might even ask for some payment upfront (I was asked for £20 pretty soon after the call started). Then they say your order’s confirmed. Normally, you’d expect texts from a courier saying your phone is on its way. But when the package shows up, it’s not the phone you picked. Instead, they use your details to get a cheaper phone at the price you agreed to. Shortly after you receive it, the scammer rings back saying the phone was wrong and asks you to send it back so they can send a replacement. Spoiler alert: the replacement never comes. If you ring the actual mobile company, they say they never requested a return and that you were sent the right device.
