There’s this site that popped up near the top of Google when I searched for Garmin support - it looks like [#]garminesuppprit###]/update-now.php or something similar. They claim they can sort out issues with Garmin Express but then ask to take control of your computer. It’s really well done and almost fooled me, so heads up if you see it.

Saw a pop-up on TomTom's legit site pretending to be their support team - totally shocking! Makes you wonder how TomTom lets stuff like this slide. Ridiculous really!

I got a call from someone claiming to be from the TomTom GPS update centre. I've dealt with these scammers before, so I wasn’t falling for it again.

Got a call from someone claiming to be Garmin support, saying they wanted to charge me for map updates. Definitely a total rip-off.

Some bloke said he's a Tom Tom tech, but he's really pushy and wants to get into your computer. Definitely be careful with that one!

I got a call from TomTom, said they wanted to fix some errors on my computer and do a quick update. Sounded a bit off, so I didn’t let them in. Could’ve been a scam or something fishy, better to be safe.

Watch out for TomTom sat nav support scams, total rip-off!

I visited the TomTom site to try updating my device and ended up using their chat help. A woman there said the tech support would ring me. When the guy called, he asked me to connect my TomTom to my PC but wouldn’t let me ring him back. Something about it felt off. After seeing others’ stories here, I’m definitely not answering if he phones again!

He said he was just doing an update for me, didn’t say anything about charges at first. Only after he’d been fiddling with the computer did he mention a £235 fee. That’s when I said no way, and refused to give my card details, then I turned the computer off. Now, it won’t even start up.

Got a call out of the blue but chose not to pick up. After checking out the details here, I’m pleased I ignored it.

Sounds like a total scam to me. I got a call from some bloke who said he'd assist me in updating my TomTom by hooking into my computer. I told him no way was I letting him do that, and he just hung up. They seem to pretend to be a support line when you attempt to update your TomTom.

I got a call from someone claiming to be from TomTom support, saying they needed to help me update my device. They somehow got into my computer and then told me there was a problem that they could fix for £99. It felt like a sneaky way to make me pay for an update. I wasn’t having it and ended the call straight away.

I was trying to get my TomTom updated through their help centre and they passed me on to their tech support. They gave me a ring on my mobile and someone got into my computer remotely. He started telling me there were loads of problems and said he could fix it by doing an update, but then asked for quite a lot of money for the supposed upgrade. It seemed like a sneaky way to make you pay for something that’s meant to be guaranteed for life, so I just ended the call.

I thought it was TomTom help line, turns out it wasn’t. Bit misleading if you ask me.

I had an issue with my Garmin sat nav because the maps had disappeared and the Garmin downloader kept freezing. I rang their support number and was connected to what they called "tech support." They called me back and began asking to adjust several settings on my computer. It soon became clear they weren’t actually looking to fix my original problem and were just trying to upsell me something. I politely declined their offer. They told me my Garmin sat nav was beyond repair, but I ended up reinstalling the Garmin downloader myself and the maps downloaded fine in the end.

I got a call from some unknown number and it really made me feel uneasy. Not sure what they wanted, but yeah, I’m a bit concerned about it.
