I tried ringing the number back but the tone didn’t sound like a usual UK line. When someone picked up, they said they were from HMRC. I ended the call straight away because I knew it wasn’t their real number.

Got a voicemail from this number on my mobile earlier. It was some recorded voice saying they were from HMRC, warning me not to ignore the message or I'd risk legal trouble - sounded pretty dodgy. When I rang back, an automated reply said something like "we're unable to take your call right now, please try again later." Honestly, it seems like a scam to me.
