I received a rather dubious call from someone who claimed to be affiliated with Amazon, insisting that I had placed an order for a mobile phone last night. She mentioned she had sent me an email regarding the order, but of course, I hadn’t seen anything come through. When I ended the call, she promptly rang me back to inquire about my abrupt disconnection, assuring me she wasn’t trying to sell me anything. I played it off by repeatedly saying "Hello," making it seem as though I couldn’t hear her, until she finally hung up on me. It was quite clear to me that her true intention was to fish for my personal information for some dodgy scheme later on.

Got a call from someone saying they were Alex at Amazon, sounded dodgy right away with a heavy accent. He said there’d been some weird activity on my Amazon account, that someone had bought a phone or something, and wanted me to look at my emails. I ended the call pretty sharpish. Then he rang again and started giving my name and address, trying to prove he was legit. I told him that info’s probably easy to find online anyway, and flat out said I reckoned he was a scammer and to never ring me again.

Today I got a call from this number claiming someone had charged £670 to my Amazon account and that I should have received an email about it. I checked my inbox but didn’t see any message from Amazon. The caller then told me to search for specific things in my email and even offered to control my computer to find the email. I said no, guessing it was a scam, and told him so. After that, he threatened to shut down my computer, which freaked me out so I ended the call. He rang back straight away sounding angry, but I told him not to call me again. Luckily, he hasn’t since then.

Got a call from this number asking if I'd had my Covid jabs. Then they wanted to know how many folks lived with me. When I asked why that mattered, they didn’t really answer and just insisted they needed my email to send a Covid certificate. I told them I didn’t know anything about such a certificate and wasn’t going to share my email. They kept pushing for the email claiming it was necessary to send the certificate. I refused, and they just cut the call.

Got a call from someone claiming to be Amazon security about a suspicious phone purchase on my account. She never bothered to ask who I was though. I said thanks a lot for the heads-up and told her I’d look into it right away. After that, she just went quiet and I ended the call. Turns out, there was no sign of any dodgy activity at all.

Got a call from a bloke called Martin Smyth, said he was from Amazon security. He tried talking all posh with a fancy English accent but his thick Indian accent gave him away straight away. Claimed someone was trying to buy an iPad with my Prime account and said he needed my bank info to cancel the order. I just told him to quit fibbing and then he just hung up on me.

This morning I got a robo call from a different number claiming someone tried to buy a phone with my Amazon acct. Then, a few hours later, this number rings me and the person says the same thing, asking me to look at my emails, even the junk folder. I told them I had already checked everything earlier and there's nothing wrong. After that, they just ended the call.

21/04/20 at 2.36pm, a bloke calling himself Alex from Amazon started the chat with a heavy Indian accent that was hard to catch. I cut him off pretty quick, offering some rather unusual ways he could pass the time instead - keeping in mind it’d be night-time over there in Asia by then. Seems like these lot reckon anyone past 60 has no clue what’s going on. Pure scams, these muppets just tryna con folks outta their cash. Absolute scumbags.

Just got a call from this number, much like a couple of others here. The person claimed someone tried to buy a mobile worth around £600 using an account linked to my info. They asked if I’d got an email from Amazon about this today. I said I hadn’t. Then they insisted I check by opening something on my computer through the Run command in Windows. I told them to deal with it because I’m not fussed - any dodgy charges will be handled by Amazon and my card provider. Going to block the number now.
