I got a call and they left a message pretty much like the one mentioned here. I'm waiting on a big refund from HMRC and was expecting a call about it, which probably made me more gullible. I rang HMRC myself and they told me they hadn’t been in touch with me at all. Watch out, this seems like a scam!

Got one of those scary voicemail things from someone pretending to be HMRC. Ringed the number back and a bloke with a serious tone started asking for my personal info to 'investigate' the reason for the message. Then he said there was a case opened against me for tax evasion and gave me some case number to quote. I asked who exactly had made the claim and he went quiet, said he’d look into it and get back to me, then just ended the call. Complete rubbish if you ask me.

Got a voicemail from a robotic female voice claiming to be ***HMRC*** telling me to ring them back or I'd face legal trouble, from the number 020 3923 6296. I phoned back and spoke to a woman who said her name was Nancy and she was from 'HM Revenue'. She told me I supposedly owed £3,424 in tax and gave me some case ID to note. She said I had to pay immediately over the phone or else legal action would follow. She even threatened to send someone to my house or workplace during business hours to explain the debt in person. Honestly, it stressed me out while I was working, and I said I’d pay - but only if they emailed me official documents to my registered HM Revenue email address. She had no idea what I was on about and kept dodging the question. Then she asked for my bank details, which is when I was sure it was a total SCAM. She must’ve picked up on my suspicion and just hung up. Really pushy and believable though. ***SCAM ALERT***
