This call claimed to be from Shell, offering to send someone over to install Smart Meters for keeping track of energy usage. Interestingly, they were spot on about two things - Shell is actually my energy company, and I don’t have Smart Meters yet. Makes me wonder if it’s just a lucky guess or if they somehow got access to Shell’s customer list?

Got a call from someone pretending to be from Blockchain.com, saying my Bitcoin account was locked and that I needed to pay to get it unlocked. Right away I knew it was dodgy, so I reached out to Blockchain.com directly to see if they knew about it. They had no idea but told me straight up it was a scam. Seriously, don’t give these people any info or cash to “recover” your account - it’s just fraud.

Got a call but didn’t pick up, instantly guessed it was a dodgy scam so I’ve blocked the number now.

Got a call where they kept asking for an Andrew, which I'm not, obviously. Heard loads of weird noise in the background too, so I just ended it then and there. Classic sign of one of those dodgy nuisance calls. Went straight to blocked.

I received a rather dubious phone call claiming I’d won a whopping £91,000 in a bitcoin competition I never even signed up for, let alone knew existed! It felt fishy right from the start - I suspect she was angling for my address. This wasn’t the first time either; it was the third call I’d had from various numbers. One of those digits was 020 4542 8294. I quickly cut the conversation short after informing her that she was chatting nonsense.

So I got a call from someone claiming I had like 2.8 bitcoin just sitting in an account that hadn’t been touched. They said it was inactive or something and to unlock it I had to pay 0.014 BTC upfront, which came to about £400. They promised I’d get that money back as soon as my wallet was reactivated. Sounded dodgy to me.

Got a call from someone called "Kevin Phillips" who spoke with a strong Russian accent. He was really pushy and said I had 2.8 bitcoins in my blockchain.com account. He wanted to discuss what I could do with it, but honestly, it felt like a total bitcoin scam to me.

I’ve had a rather similar experience, it seems. They’re alleging that I’ve invested in Bitcoin, which, to be clear, I haven’t at all! They’re insisting that I possess three whole Bitcoins and that in order to access my funds, I must first part with some cash. Just a heads-up-these folks are clearly attempting to pull a fast one!
